Shopping early - but when does fresh stuff get put out?

I’d say it varies. When I worked in retail, it literally never had anything to do with delivery times. It was more to do with other issues:
1. When staff started their shifts on particular departments. Varied day to day.2. If someone had rang in sick.3. A more urgent matter took priority.4. Already too much of a product on the shelf with a sooner sell by/use by date, they held the fresh stuff back to sell that first, to reduce waste.0 -
This is right. If any chiller or freezer alarm sounds, this is tackled by emptying the affected chiller(s) or freezer(s) immediately. About 8 years ago, the night shift staff carried on with filling produce and not attempted to empty the two chillers that alarmed. Part of meat aisle went and the other was cooked meats, pork pies, coleslaw etc We had to dispose of about £105k! As it was Wednesday before Easter and had legs of lamb, beef joints and whole turkeys.MarkN88 said:I’d say it varies. It was horrible explaining why we had hardly any meat in. We had a promotional chiller with meat which wasn’t affected. The late night manager was disciplined,
moved stores and demoted. He left a few months later.1 -
I dealt with a similar incident once. Lucky for us though, even though one colleague admitted he didn’t know what the alarm was for, another did and came and got me. Totally awoke my eyes to colleague training hadn’t been carried out properly.briskbeats said:

I work in fresh food retail. Most customers are truly lovely.Unfortunately,a minority are absolute pigs to retail workers.I have experienced swearing, spitting and even had purchases thrown at me.One manager I knew, was even stabbed because he refused an age - restricted sale.briskbeats said:
This is why everyone should work in retail or customer service once in their liveselljay said:So customers shouted at you because of a crash? Unbelievable!
Thanks for the info about the bread and other fresh stuff, that's really helpful.0 -
Though have you noticed since this year- the rudeness and horrible customers are now as worse pre shelf stripping?mumf said:

Then don’t start me with “I don’t need a mask as had both vaccines” lot. Not yet. Plus those under 35s who “claim” to be exempt and if they mention a condition- it’s always asthma! They are all deniers. As an asthmatic myself I find that very insulting indeed.

Everyone's different though. For some the thought of wearing a mask induced a psychosomatic bronchospasm and we wouldn't wish to deny their lived experience.briskbeats said:

So much to read, so little time.0 -
Some people are not nice however difference i've seen is people are nicer to each other more in stores and certainly more aware of each other, less gawping at their mobiles too which means they see where they are going more.As to when fresh items go out on shelves, I don't think since stores have traded on Sundays there is a difference, fresh items seem to go on shelves regularly.0
