Calor Gas

Hi
I have just moved into a flat in North Down area with Calor gas for heating and hot water. I have never worked with mains gas heating /hot water before. It seems very expensive but maybe I am not working it properly.
Can anyone tell me if keep the boiler turned on all the time at the hot water setting am I only charged when I actually turn on the taps for hot water or am I charged the whole time the boiler is set like this? Should I only turn the boiler on and off when I actually want to use hot water or can I keep it turned on the whole time but I am only charged when I turn on the tap?
Thanks

Does the boiler not fire up only when you turn the tap?? Run a hot water tap and listen to it firing up!

Yes it fires up when I turn on the hot tap. So when I want a shower I just turn on the shower without touching the boiler. Is that correct?

Sounds like you have a combi boiler.   I have Phoenix gas and my boiler is like that you only use gas when you turn on taps, shower or heating.

Do you have a gas tank?   Calor is not mains gas as far as I have always know?   You will have a large tank, think like an oil tank that has to be fill by Calor.  Sometimes they are underground.

Yes!  unless you have a electric shower which is more common
