Hubby paying no Tax with Salary

Hi all,
My hubby works for an agency and has done since 2013.  His weekly wage changes slightly each week depending on hours/OT worked.  Since the new financial year began, he has paid zero tax.  He is paid under the PAYE system.  His tax code is 1257L.    After I checked his government gateway account, it seems that his estimated yearly salary is down as under £11000 hence no tax deductions.   I presume these details are sent by the the employment agency to HMRC ?  No P60 has been produced yet either and we're now middle of May.   Hubby did earn a little over £14000 last financial year.  My questions, how long does the HMRC take to update things so he starts paying as don't particularly want to ring them (life's too short lol) and don't want to underpay tax and get stung with a large bill next year.   I updated his estimated yearly earnings to £14000 a couple of weeks ago.  He hasn't been furloughed this year either.   Thanks.

It is his tax code that decides the amount of tax he will pay not any estimate of earnings.  At the moment that appears to be 1257L That code would result in no tax being due if taxable earnings in month 1 (ie paid between 6/4 and 5/5 ) were under £1048 aprox. and in month 2 (6/5 to 5/6) taxable earnings to date were under £2096.00 aprox.  Have earnings gone over these figures and tax not been deducted?
