Jobseekers allowance

Hello,
I was hoping someone on here could help me, it has been confirmed to me today that I will be loosing my job on the 31st July.  From my understanding I would be eligible to claim job seekers allowance- is this effected by the fact I have savings?  I am under 21 so am aware I would only get a limited amount.  I will be getting notice from my job on 31st July and have a 2 week notice period which I would not be working.  At what stage do I apply for jobseekers/am I able to get other benefits

  • It’s known as new style Jobseeker’s Allowance and you will have to meet the eligibility which is here: https://www.gov.uk/jobseekers-allowance/eligibility

If you need help with housing costs then you would need to apply for the housing element of universal credit.

You could also potentially get council tax reduction depending on circumstances.

Depending on your savings this could impact on your entitlement too.

You would need to have been working and paying National Insurance (or treated as such) for the period April 2018 to April 2020, if this is the case then yes your savings are irrelevant.  If you haven't worked and paid NI for that period then you would need to claim Universal Credit, if your savings are £16k or more then you have no entitlement to UC.
