in Cutting tax
Hi.....I moved into a New Build in July 2020 and have been paying my council tax as requested.
Ive just received a message to say they have rebanded my house into a higher banding and they are backdating the council tax to July last year?!?! Can they do that, how’s that possible??
Ive contacted others who own the same style house and they are all in the banding Ive been put into.
the estate has been here for 5 years already so it’s not like it’s a brand new development

1. What sort of message? Who sent it, the council or the VOA?ashtriplett said:Hi.....I moved into a New Build in July 2020 and have been paying my council tax as requested.

2. Which is it, a new build or a 5 yr old house?
3. So other houses of the same type are in the higher band?
4. Unless you are in Wales a band increase would not normally be backdated and then it could only be backdated on account of a Material Increase and Relevant Transaction.
5. If this is a new build are you sure you haven't been paying CT on an estimated band rather than an actual band ?If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
