Advice please - Cabot and Post Office CC. 2 defaults same debt

Hi I hope someone can advise me on this.
I'm in a DMP with Stepchange.
I had a Post Office credit card from 2011 which defaulted 31/1/19. The debt was later taken over by Cabot. My credit report shows I am in default with both Bank of Ireland/Post Office and Cabot Credit Management Group from 31/1/19. Essentially 2 defaults for 1 the same debt. I intend to write to both companies to challenge this. Is there anything else I can do to have one of these defaults removed? Any advice greatly appreciated.

No, its not two defaults, look carefully, the post office default entry, should show the date of default, and a zero balance.
Your debt was sold to Cabot, so they are entitled to report the same default also, however, it should be marked as the same date of default, and should also show the outstanding balance.
One default, two status updates, all perfectly normal, unless what i have described above is not the case, then you should complain.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. When did the Cabot entry appear, is it recent or has it been there since 2019 or soon after. If the latter, then as long as they both show the same date, with one as zero and one with a balance outstanding - then it's less of a concern. If the Cabot one is a recent entry it could be a timing issue with the former entry yet to be removed from your account.
When mine were sold on the entry from the OC was removed and replaced by the one from the DCA, but if that had not happened I probably would have contacted the OC to ask for their records to be updated. There's no point contacting Cabot, because they are recording the information correctly, seeing as they now own the debt.1 -

I'll write to Post Office cards and ask them to update their records.Thank you Suseska and Sourcrates for your help with this.
