A severe shortage of milk in Peterlee Aldi this morning, only about 30 2 pint, no 4 pint, and about 15 6 pint of semi skilled in the cages.

Is this due to the recent cold snap, or is there industrial action going on somewhere in the supply chain?
It might be connected with this, because I think they’re targeting several distribution centres, and not just Tesco:

Even if they were just targeting Tesco it would have a knock on effect to other stores.  Might make a trip out to the milk machine near us that has the milk directly from the farmer - same price as the stores but the farmer gets all the profit.

@harz99 - I am very impressed with your visual audit! I shall be very sad to run out of moo juice because life without tea and coffee is unbearable.

The farmers have a point but I don't agree with the blockades. Will the government wake up and implement any of Baroness Batters' recommendations from last month? None are overnight fixes and need a lot of planning and investment: https://defrafarming.blog.gov.uk/2025/12/18/farming-profitability-review-recommendations-published/

Just reporting back on the Lidl Deluxe pistachio panettone, which we only got round to eating this week. I am the big panettone fan in my family and found it to be nice enough but could stop at a single slice, which I find impossible with one that is stuffed with vine fruit and peel. Other family members that are verbal about how much they dislike panettone loved it! So its really a cake for no-panettone lovers. We've still got 2 more to get through - Waitrose Tiramisu (technically a torta) and Lidl Deluxe Tiramisu .

Self control goes out the window where good panettone and stollen are concerned, they are so delicious.

Its a tough journey, but I am getting there. The trick for me is not to open anything until I have people to share it with and divide the leftovers amongst.

On a less positive note - the Nature's Pick apples (Gala I think) I bought from Aldi recently look good but are completely tasteless. I am going to have to cook them down with cinnamon to get any flavour out of them!

I'm loving Greek week at Lidl, loads of goodies available  :) . Something I hadn't seen before yesterday use the bergamot in syrup, which I shall use in baking.

Still on the subject of Christmas treats, the final reductions are as follows:

Well worth bearing in mind when shelling out £6 in December (especially as I didn't get round to actually opening my first of the season until last week!).

    Can Panettone be frozen ?

If I was half as smart as I think I am - I'd be twice as smart as I REALLY am.

Certainly. It freezes very well. The only downside is the space they take up.

I'd freeze in slices so you can take out what you want.

I used one for a trifle base spread with jam and it went down very well.
