O/S Daily Thursday 20 May 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Gers - thinking of you and your mum x
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid ealry, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS1 getting ready for work. DS2 settled and happy.
Sky is clear and the sun is shining - but rain is forecast yet again and there's a nip in the air.
Dinner last night was herbed chicken with pasta in a carbonara sauce and a side of baked large flat mushroom. Not sure what we'll be having tonight - we have lots of eggs, so may need to be something like egg, beans and chips or omelettes.
Yesterday work was ok, I'm working all day today but then off until Monday.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Dry for now but rain is forecast later, glad I watered all the pots and baskets yesterday, they were badly needing it.
Nothing much to report, life is chugging along. I've just been for a lovely walk along the river, it was so calm. Swimming tonight and hoping to catch up with the Sewing Bee, quite enjoy that programme.
Hope the poorlies are recovering and those who are fed up have a better day. Thinking of Gers and her DM as always and also Nelski, Poppy and dumpling's sister. Good to hear from you Mehefin.
Take care. XX14 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. It's the calm before the storm here as well. Lovely sunny start but now clouding over and heavy rain forecast for the rest of the day. Never mind, it doesn't scupper any plans as going nowhere and just a good clean of the kitchen and bathroom on the agenda. My steam mop was acting up last week so I am waiting to see if it works or if I need to order another.
My afternoon with my bestie at the carvery yesterday was lovely. I had booked 2.00 pm and by then the lunchtime rush was over. The waitress said as it was so quiet there was no rush for us to vacate our table. So we ordered a bottle of wine and spent a couple of hours putting the world to rights after our meal! Life almost felt normal again! We will definitely go again at that time.
Have a good day folks if you can. ((HUGS)) for our poorlies and poorly loved ones. Thinking as always of GERS & DM, POPPY, NELSKI, MARIE and hoping MR FIXIT is feeling a bit better. Take care one and all x

Morning folks. Thanks for all the good wishes and thoughts. DM remains in sedated state with great care from the district nurses and carer services. I am hanging on with support from friends (including Camelot) and neighbours. All's well.My thoughts are with all our other poorlies and wish you all a happy Thursday.14

Morning all.
Dull and cool here but strangely all our radiators upstairs have come on, in spite of the heating being switched off! Luckily our nice plumber/electrician was coming at 8am and he's replaced part of the pump so it should switch off properly now. We have to keep it on for a little while just to check.
I have a dental check up appointment this morning, so that will be me hanging around outside whilst they ask me a round of Covid related questions, before being escorted inside. When I saw the hygienist last week I also had to wait inside her room until someone was free to escort me back out.
I also need to go to Cost** to restock on some items so will get a cooked chicken for us to eat today. Easy meal with some salad bits and there will be plenty left for another day.
Thinking of Gers and her mum as usual and hope all goes well for folks today.11 -
Morning all..Grey and miserable looking but apparently there are signs pointing to a heatwave to come. Plumber came and sorted new taps [eventually, this house is a nightmare for bodged DIY jobs that take more time to fix - and no, wasn't me!] and I am now full of the joys of having new taps.Sounds stupid but they are so much easier to use, the flow is better and I don't have that nagging feeling it's going to drip.Took the opportunity when putting everything back to remove a few plates and dishes I don't like so they are in the pile for the next dump visit. Whch I must book. Booked a bloodt test for June, no idea what this one is for, just got a letter saying book one. I have to boook a blood test for the hospital too this week, I will be a pale pincushion before long. Not complaining too much though, only for comedic effect. I love the NHS, I owe them my life...Today I will be meeting friends for coffee later on. I cooked stuffed peppers last night so that's food for today sorted. Along with a couple of fennel that I might make into a dip. Other than that, nothing planned today, just mooching...Maybe a bit of gardening, cut down a small plant and shove it in the compost bin, depends if it brightens up or brightens down...Gers, it's such a difficult thing for you o be facing as well as your mum. There aren't any words that can make it better but my thoughts are most definitely with you on this hideous rollercoaster. Nanny, did the jab knock you out again? May your future have sufficient paracetomol....Hope your world of sog has downgraded today AOD
Take care of yourselves all, it's just a dismal day today, definitely a fire and baileys kind of day...

Morning, hugs if you need one. Gers as always, my thoughts are with you and your DM.
A bit of a grey morning, DD1, DGD and GGS coming after lunch to collect 'the quilt'. I need to make scones and also cook the pork casserole for tonight.
I took the quilt and a book cushion to the coffee morning, I now have 3 orders for book cushions, one pink and 2 blue, I have some blue fabric, but had to order the pink. I need to get 3 inner cushions when we go to Dunelm. So GGD's quilt will go on the back burner for a week or so.
We do not appear to have had much of the high winds that were forecast. DB went out and weighted everything down yesterday afternoon, it does however look as if it might rain.
Supper tonight, pork casserole, mash and veg. Need to sort out a dessert.10 -
Good morning everyone
Gers, you and your mum are in my thoughts. I'm glad you feel you have support as this part of life is so hard xx
Update on my sister, she has one more chemo session to go and then she has a pet scan to see if the tumours have shrunk enough for her operation. All being well she will have the surgery in 4-6 weeks time where they will remove her stomach and most of her oesophagus. If she survives the surgery she has an estimated 54% chance of living for around 4 years hopefully. She is still being as positive as she can and as she is as stubborn as they come I think she will be around for a few more years yet. The surgery sounds brutal but it's her only chance.
I woke up in the middle of the night in a complete panic about our holiday next year so I have decided to cancel it but rebook at Butlins. We used to go there a fair bit when the girls were little so I am familiar with it and I think there will be more to do for the grandchildren as well as more inside activities in case our lovely British weather lets us down. I am still practicing walking outside but it has been difficult with all the rain lately.
Steve is on kitchen duty today so we are having liver and onions for dinner tonight. My diet has gone not gone to plan but today is a new day and a fresh opportunity to start again. My sister is popping over later so I need to tidy up a bit and open a window to let some fresh air in. It may be damp and grey outside but it is not cold which is something to be thankful for.
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are doing, take care xx

Morning all
Dull and overcast here and more rain due later, I am getting fed up with this almost constant rain roll on the heatwave that is supposed to be coming !!
Will take the dogs to the park for a walk and maybe over the field later with dd. Saw my friend and the puppy he is fine atm as he still has some vision, he and dd's pup love rough and tumble so I hope that can continue as they both love it so much.
DW needs empying and washing putting away and a sweep through, this afternoon I need to update my click and collect for Saturday.
Taff I am also eternally grateful to our wonderful NHS saved my life too xxx
Gers thinking of you and your mum you are never far from my thoughts xx
Nels I hope your poor hands are at least a bit better xx
Thinking of Marie xx
Have good days all xx12 -
Hello all, we have stormy weather here and will last at least until tomorrow so we have battened down all the hatches.I had a bit of a run around trying to locate Mr Fix It's script on Tuesday and eventually had it sorted, but what a kerfuffle. He then saw his GP yesterday and he has, in no particular order, an ear infection, wet eczema of the inner ear and the crystals in the ear canal are swimming about w*lly n*lly again
Thank goodness was able to stand yesterday as we had to queue for our jabs, about 30 people were waiting outside when we arrived and 20 more inside, still the people moved very quickly and we we in and out before our time to go in. The weather was sunny but cold so that was good too, wouldn't have liked to stand in this awful weather today. I just have a sore arm and an aching shoulder this time so that's all good, plus we got to spend the day with our lovely DD, that made my day. We got to have a delivered chippy lunch together too and we even broke the rules by having a hug, oops! (she had done her flow test and it was negative) I wasn't going over to England to hug a stranger where hugging is allowed 🤔
While gaming with DGS later we were asked if he could be booked in for a sleep over now we've been jabbed again, talk about being desperate to come and stay would be an understatement. Unfortunately for him, his sister will probably be coming too as she's not one to be left "home alone"We had a visit from Dad yesterday afternoon too, he was as giddy as a schoolboy as he'd been shopping to Aldis, the first time since last March, the 2020 one. I had to bring in all his shopping and help him sort it as he'd bought several things for us too. My fridge is now full so I will have to bag most of it and somehow get it in the freezer today, no way could we eat all that even if himself was well. The DW will need filling and putting on today, but other than that I'm going to have a quiet day of doing nothing. Must stop waffling on, I've probably bored everyone to tears by now !Gers thinking of you and Mum, neither of you are far from my mind these days.Dumpling sometimes being stubborn has it's advantages. Love to you and your DSis, long may she be with us.Take care, hugs to anyone in need and for any reason, or even for no reason at all.nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently13
