@techyteacher Hopefully I'm not missing something obvious in your post but life insurance or income protection insurance is NOT a mandatory requirement to be able to take out a mortgage. So if you don't want to take it out, there should be no obligation to do so.

The commission that someone makes doesn't make any difference to whether you are financially protected or not.
Feel free to take all, some, or none. It's not mandatory
If you have a situation where the risk is on one person then insure that person.
Maybe you need more bespoke advice to insure against your concerns and leave the stuff you dont worry about

Ok thanks. They sold it whilst putting the mortgage through. It is stupid to pay ££££ when I already have death in service and my husband is insured up to the hilt for cheap. I only work part time at the moment because of our children, so my salary isn’t a huge factor. I was under the impression we had to have it. Looking at the mortgage offer, only buildings is compulsory. Thank you, I’ve been physically sick over this tonight. No issues seeing my own GP as I’d declared everything. I’m not seeing someone I don’t know. Thank you.K_S said:@techyteacher Hopefully I'm not missing something obvious in your post but life insurance or income protection insurance is NOT a mandatory requirement to be able to take out a mortgage. Although a medical report would be requested from your GP in the first instance, if it is then deemed that a medical examination is necessary (not very common) it would be quite normal for a Life Office to require the medical examination be carried-out by its own doctor. During my service we had a panel of approved local GPs which we used. I suspect there is more to this than we are aware of, as something will have triggered the request for a medical examination. We also do not know the amount of life cover requested.Weighty1 may have more up-to-date comments.0
