Decision on job offer

Hi all
Current situation i have been with my current employer about 4 years HGV driving. I’ve hit a stage where I’ve had enough and I’ve been wanting to get out for a while now. I’m sick of early starts anything from 4am to 6am and being undervalued (never had a thanks in 4 years) I’ve been offered a more local job with fixed hours doing 7-5 and 7-3 on a Friday. But I’m unsure what to do I’m not one for change but people keep telling me to take the plunge. 🤔 anyone else ever been in similar situation.

Why are you unsure? You don't like your current job and have found another.Gam2015 said:Hi all

You've only been there 4 years so I don't really know what is holding you back from accepting the new job.
Why did you apply for it?Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....1 -
it can be a bit daunting changing jobs, let alone changing careers so i can understand why you may have reservations. however, you clearly hated your job and wanted to get another one, which you have managed to do (congratulations by the way on getting the new job).
don't let life pass you by, bite the bullet and take the plunge. see what else is out there and you always have the option to go back to your old HGV driving later on down the line if this one doesn't work out. you have nothing to lose and a lot to gain so go for it.
good luck.0 -
Which do you dislike more: your current job, or the possibility of moving to one with hours you would much prefer?Gam2015 said:Hi all

If you don't take the chance to get out now, you'll regret it later. New jobs are difficult but after a few weeks it'll feel like you've always been there.0

You are clearly unhappy not only with the job's unsocial hours but with the employer as well. If the new job is something you like the idea of doing, then the only thing stopping you is concern about change. If you move and don't like the job you can look again. If you don't take the job you could be wondering forever 'what if?'

It's always daunting to move jobs as you are going from the known (even if you don't like it) to the unknown - but it sounds as though the new job is better hours and closer to home, so even if you find that you don't particularly like it, you're still in a better position than now.
from a practical perspective, starting anew does mean that you don't have the protections of being eligible for redundancy pay if the job ends, and not having immediate protection against being let go if the new job doesn't work out, but those things are always trtue when you move jobs, and I wouldn't see them as a reason never to move !
Assuming that the new job will pay as well as the old and that you are confident you can do it, then go ahead, and enjoy! All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0 -
It doesn't sound as though you are changing careers - still working as an HGV driver but with predictable/fixed hours, closer to home. So this sounds better for you - and those who know you think the same. Go for it!0

Don't dwell on being undervalued, very few employers give praise.
Just think of one positive of the old job over the new (excluding the 2 yr rule). Now keep adding up all these old job positives. Do they outweigh new job positives?
I'll leave you to work this one out.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
