If your friend wants to buy an anniuty with the funds in 5-6 years time, then IMO you don't want to go into a high level of equity.Pension lifestyling is often regarded as inappropriate on here, because most people these days want to use drawdown, so will keep a good part of their pot invested for over 10 years.Lifestyling often does have the advantage of reducing the effect of a big equity drop just before, if you do want to use it fo an annuity. Its why providers of these type of funds change to gradually higher proportions of bonds. I don't quite understand it, but I believe bond price changes balance out annuity costs, so that the predicted income doesn't change too much over the lifestyle years.0
