Mortgage question spouse visa

Hi, this is for my sister in law.
Basically she is a full timer carer for her son and her husband works full time. He earns around 18k a year. He has good credit but she doesn’t he is also on a spouse visa. Would they still be able to get a mortgage?

@kirkii17 Yes, being on a spouse visa isn't a showstopper though it depends on the details.

Can she still get a mortgage having carers allowance and universal credit put as her own income? I helped her do a DIP with Halifax but it got declined
  • Really depends on lender criteria and loan to value
Did you meet the criteria for halifax before you did a dip?
If you dont know then you should stop just trying randomly as you'll do more harm than good.

@kirkii27 Yes, there are lenders who will consider carer's allowance (in her name, with an award letter and a track record) and some components of UC subject to sustainability.

This isn’t for me. It’s my sister in law. She looking to moves to Wales closer to us lot but she currently renting in Manchester. She banks with Halifax so she wanted to give them a try.

Is her husband going to need to find new employment?  On an £18k salary commuting a long distance isn't going to viable.

He works for Company whose head office in deeside so he could potentially get a pay rise and be on more than 18k.

@kirkii27 You have quite a few criteria to meet - one applicant on a spouse visa, carer's income, UC without earned income, 100% gifted deposit, new job (?) / location, etc. And this is only from the information in your post or that you are aware of, there might be more significant details in the background. The LTV at <75% LTV is a definite positive.
If you are going direct I would recommend running all this past the lender to make sure they will consider before applying for a DIP.
