Death in service benefit

Yet again you are out of date. No new claims for income support (even supposing that would be the right way to proceed) are possible: https://www.gov.uk/income-supportTVAS said:Thank you for the link Macron I see things have changed and we now have registered and non registered Group Life Schemes now paying up to 10 x salary. However whether it is 4 x or 8 x does not detract from the fact that a claim will only be paid if the person was in service and has sadly died.
Others have mentioned employer loans but the person would have to contact DWP to claim income support if there is no sick pay beyond statutory sick pay.
OP is in a dreadful situation. Please do the decent thing and stop posting inaccurate 'information' which is of no value to him.
If anyone has a better idea than my suggestion of asking for a loan from the employer, please post...it's urgent and I can't think of any other way to get a decent amount of tax free (or almost tax free) cash into OP's hands in the near future, always supposing the employer is willing play ball.Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!0 -
My DH died in Jan this year, out oncologist did a DS1500 form for PIP, they still took 3 months to pay out and insisted on a telephone interview ! She was horrified. Do work not offer full pay whilst off sick ? My DH work where amazing really and kept him on full pay until the end. Pre Covid death in service benefit was normally paid out within a few weeks, this year it took about 3/4 months.Sealed pot challenge 822

I don't have a better idea on getting income but I would suggest that the OP could reduce their projected expenditure by not embarking on structural repairs to their house at this time. Even with sufficient funds, I wouldn't have thought it would be the right time to start something so disruptive.Marcon said:

I'm sorry for your loss.dawnybabes said:My DH died in Jan this year, out oncologist did a DS1500 form for PIP, they still took 3 months to pay out and insisted on a telephone interview ! I started getting PIP early 2020 (pre-covid) and it was suprsingly quick once my DS1500 was in place. It sounds like something might have gone wrong in your DH's case as pretty sure it should go through without needing an interview (and should be be backdated to when you apply). I'm sure you had/have quite enough to deal with rather than pursuing all that though.1
