Employers reference

Evening all.

Final hurdle in application (Coventry) seems to be an employers reference. They are going to do it via email for speed - what questions do they ask the employer? Just ‘do they work here?’ And ‘do they earn x-amount’?

@capri84 Coventry is being very thorough in your case! :)
I can't speak for Coventry specifically but generally speaking a lender employer reference is simply to confirm that you work there and your salary is xxx

As an example, here is what we issue for Halifax cases;-

"We have been asked to ask you to pass the following to your new employer for their assistance in confirming your income and employment.

Please ask your employer to produce a letter which includes/meets the following requirements;-

     •             Addressed to Halifax plc, PO Box 548, Leeds. LS1 1WU

    •             Roll number

    •             The full name of the employee

    •             The employee’s job title

    •             Start date

    •             Contract status – temporary or permanent

    •             Basic salary and details of any additional pay such as Overtime, Commission or Bonus

    •             It must have either a company stamp, or be typed on, or accompanied by a sheet of the company’s headed paper

    •             The reference must be signed and dated, and the name and position of the person completing the reference be provided.

Once ready, it MUST be sent directly from the employer to employmentreference@lloydsbanking.com and please take care with the spelling of the email address."

OP, I have a lot of experience of this as when I was on a visa almost all lenders asked for employer references. My employer had only one simple format they issue it in, over email, irrespective of what the lender requirements were and it's always been ok though sometimes queried and asked for a copy of the employment contract. So nothing to worry about.

Same as ionibra, contract has been the key document to provide and a P60 for me to show annual bonus.

No. We issue to client and they pass on to employer.

Won't it be GDPR?  The employee needs to authorise the information being released.

Employer says they are snowed under with these applications just now. Say it might take up to 14 days.
