Hi,
I am in need of help with a situation that I just cannot fix and it constantly raises questions when applying for credit.

I apparently have a debt with T-Mobile (Now EE) of over £800. I do not ever recall taking out a mobile or service with T-Mobile but they have been registering defaults since 2012. I have even had other contracts with EE directly since then and they have even said if I owed that much they would have declined a new contract. I have spoken to EE (T-Mobile Branch) and they cannot tell me what device or service I took out. but can confirm that I owe over £800 and I need to pay it back. I have asked for any contracts that I have signed to be sent through but they have said they no longer have these.

So I raised a dispute with the main 3 credit reference agencies. All have got back to me basically saying I have not provided enough evidence that I don't owe the money so they cannot remove anything from my file.

Where do I go from here? It sounds like T-Mobile have just made up an account with no device, number or service attached.

Thanks for any help.

Well the million dollar question is, is it your debt ?
There is no agreement for a service contract, use of the handset or sim, counts as acceptance.
A default added in 2012 would have dropped off your file in 2018, so what`s going on there ?
I would ask them to prove the debt in writing, and if they can`t, escalate to the ombudsman who deals with EE.

Thanks for the reply. This is exactly where I am at. I do not think it is my debt.

The default was added in 2012 but has been added every month since also. So last default was March 2021 from T-Mobile. I should have paid closer attention to my credit reference but it's a lesson learned.

Thanks for the ombudsman lead, I did not think of that, It may be the next course of action if EE credit department dont sort this out in the next week or so.

An account only defaults once, what you see on your file is a monthly status update of that default.
It will tell you the date of default on your file, every month for 6 years that status will show, after 6 years it should drop off automatically, paid or not, if its still showing, are you 100% positive this has defaulted, and is not just showing a series of late payments ?.

You need to look into that also.

    thanks sourcrates,
You are correct and its good to know that. I have confirmed that it was actually an error by EE which they have now fixed and equifax have removed from my credit record.
