O/S Daily Thursday 13 May 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Gers - thinking of you and your mum x
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now light , cloudy and overcast but dry. Rain forecast though.
DH and DS1 now getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was pork steak braised in gravy in the oven with roast pots, veg, LO yorkshires and gravy. Not sure about tonight but will organise when I get in.
Yesterday work was ok, working all day today.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC.It's fine and dry here, yesterday was a nice day, it warmed up a bit in the afternoon. We met up with DD after Dgs had been to nursery and went down to the park to feed the birds.Poppy, I'm sorry to read that you've had bad news, what a blow for you.Florenceem, I'm a life long Archers listener! there have been a few breaks when I had a young family, but I've listened forever. My parents were listeners and I just followed on, in the early fifties they didn't have a TV, so it was radio, or wireless as it was then, all the way. Yes, the Alice story is quite gripping, it'll be interesting to see how the scriptwriters deal with it.Hope that Gers and her Mum have had a quiet night, also thinking of others who aren't well, Nels, Marie, and anyone else with health problems.Take care folks.14

Thanks to NMLC for starting the day and morning to everyone.Another rubbish sleep so I'm up early, still out of sorts too but I need to be at DD's for just after 7.30am anyway as I'm house sitting. I'm awaiting the arrival of their new mattress, if it comes early enough perhaps I can get a sneaky try of it like Goldilocks
It's another wet and windy day, but not much will be done chez nous anyway. Think I could do with a holiday with lots of sun and warmth.
On another note Dad's driving me nuts again ! Why do some people ask your opinion then tell you your wrong 🤬 I won't bore you with that story or we'll be here all day and then we'll all end up in the nut house !Right I'd better get dressed before I leave the house, shouldn't really wander the streets in my dressing gown.Poppy I'm so sorry that you have had such bad news, huge hugs to you.Mehefin apologies if I let the cat out of the bag with you deserting us for another threadNice to "see" you here too.
Take care all, keep well. Hugs to the poorlies and anyone struggling.nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently15 -
Morning folks. Thanks for starting us off nmlc.Poppy - I'm so very sorry about your latest news. My heart is with you.Yesterday was a quiet day. The lunchtime carers came fairly early so I was able to get out for a couple of hours afterwards. I did a small shopping, collected some medicine for DM from the pharmacy. She's increasingly breathless so needs a bit of relief.Eventually I pulled myself together to deal with the clothes from the big wardrobe. My car is now stuffed with bags but nowhere to take them. Most CS are inundated with donations just now. This morning the first carers come at about 8.00am, then the cleaner will be here at 9.30am. DM's friend will arrive about 1.00pm to sit with DM whilst I go for my dental hygienist appointment. He'll also come tomorrow when I have my implant surgery. My thoughts are with all our poorlies, I hope that things improve today. TA - i think it's Sparkle's vet appointment today, if it is I hope she can get more tablets.Happy Thursday to all.15

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Another lovely start here and, after a day with no rain yesterday, we are promised some this afternoon.
Yes GERS it is the vet appointment this morning. Cue for the Sparkly Cat to turn into a Psycho Cat when I try to get her in the cat carrier!! Her eye is back to looking sore again this morning, as well as the usual chin problem. The steroid injection only clears it for a few weeks before it's back again. I don't like her having all these steroid injections but, as the vet, says, it's the lesser of two evils. If she didn't have it she would end up in the sorry state she was in when taken in by the cat rescue and, having seen photos of her then, I certainly don't want her back in that state.
Once back home it will be the usual Thursday job of a thorough clean of the bathroom and kitchen. Such excitement.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Thinking of POPPY, GERS & DM and MARIE as always. Take care one and all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"15 -
Morning All
So sorry to hear of your health news Poppy, look after yourself.
Hugs to Marie, Nels and anyone else struggling at the moment.
Glad your DM is comfortable Gers, hope the hygenist is gentle.
Still damp and dreary, I think it's to be the same for the next week but it's fairly mild and although I've been lighting the stove in the evening the heating hasn't been on. Washing on the pulley, will have another load later with some work clothes, may have to deploy the tumble drier!
I got a big job finished yesterday at work so that's one thing off my mind, still a lot to go though!
Have a good Thursday, take care. XX14 -
Morning everyone
Poppy - sorry to hear your sad news
Gers - love to you and your mum
TA - you have my sympathies getting a cat into a cat box. One of mine had to go for his booster a couple of weeks ago. I ended up chasing him round the house and with scratches on my neck and arm and 10 minutes late for his appointment!
I've had little one for the past few days, she went back to her mummy last night. Hopefully she'll manage ok today, she's still very stiff and sore. Little one will maybes visit great gran for a couple of hours.
Well I'd better get sorted for work - hope everyone has a good day14 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need. It's raining here at the moment, I'm off to collect my hearing aids after breakfast and do a bit of shopping, just milk and bread.Yesterday was knackering, we helped nine boats through the nearby lock and bridge.Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.14 -
Morning all well I think it has been raining overnight and showers forecast for today oh joy I have an appointment at the nail bar which is more of a one stop gossip/chat bar but its great fun .I also need to pop into the estate agent as we had a bit of a set back yesterday the surveyor refused to give a valuation as i couldn't show any paperwork for planning for my front extension and conservatory now the front was done by the previous owner over 30 years ago so we don't have drawings etc but i did manage to find some paperwork from when we purchased the property in 1989 to confirm planning permission ,the conservatory was originally a brick built shed at the back of the house put there when it was built and we just extended it along the back so the same height and width of the original shed in fact we even used the original side brickwork so it falls within permitted development so lets see how far we get with them today . Dinner chilli and rice nice and easy
Gers and mum hugs to you good luck with the dentist your a braver woman than me
TA poor sparkles a friend of mine who had a cat that turned into a whirling dervish at vet time invested in a pair of bee keeping gloves
Poppy thinking of you
Dumpling way to go your doing great
DP1 I hope your daughter is on the mend
Hugs go to all the poorlies and those looking after them especially Marie ,Nels and Nanny
Have a good day all stay safe xx

Morning, hugs if you need one. Pleased you had a quieter day yesterday Gers.
Off shopping this morning, I was going to Aldi, but their last 2 lots of fruit and veg have been awful, so as my neighbour wants things for Morrison thats where we are heading. I found two clematis yesterday which are showing no signs of growing, so will look for replacements.
Nice day yesterday, a bit cool out of the sun. We have sun this morning, DB tells me it may rain later.
The finger I cut is causing me a bit of concern, it is still slightly swollen, I will have to ring for a telephone consultation tomorrow if its no better.
I took casserole beef out yesterday, we had cold meat and salad for supper so will have the beef tonight with veg.11 -
Hello everyone,
Poppy, I was so sad to hear your news. Thinking of Marie and Gers and DM.
Nanny, one of my brothers once rang for help with his daughter's homework (long before google) asking about the names and order of Henry VIII's wives (I have a history degree), I reeled them off and he instantly said, "That's wrong", grr. We have a better relationship now (although infrequent) but we always rubbed each other up he wrong way when we were younger.
We had a lovely time in Yorkshire, despite Saturday being a washout. Steve is feeling better all the time, he had a blood test on our way back yesterday and has a telephone consult today before his treatment on Saturday if his bloods were ok. He also had his second vaccine last Friday which caused his temp to shoot up, to my consternation, but it was only for a few hours. He's gone to play golf this morning with instructions to stop if he feels tired.
I'm going to have a quiet, recharge my batteries kind of day today, I may do a bit of washing and some sewing.
