Hi
hope im posting this in the correct forum, please move me if im not! (I usually lurk in the old style forum!)
not sure where i stand with this.
I cancelled my membership on 12th april with JD Gyms, who recently took over my local exercise4less gym. they confirmed by email the cancellation on 12th april. I had been a member for several years when it was exercise4less so was out of the original 12 month contract, and i think jd gyms took over some time end of last year whilst gyms were still closed and membership suspended.
Today they took the monthly membership fee of £19.99 by direct debit. There also followed an email stating i had access to the gym until 11th june and they were sorry to see me go.
I queried why, when i had given them the required 30 days notice and they replied that "your 30 day period began which included in it a payment to be taken on 12/05/2021" and they stated that they wouldn't refund me the £19.99.
prior to the covid lockdown and subsequent suspension of exercise4less membership payments by the gym company themselves, my payment went out on the 10th of the month.
Am i missing something here? Or am I in the right?
thanks for any replies/advice

Any updates on this? I was wondering what happens if I cancel my direct debit before the first payment goes through, do they really send the debt collectors for it?0
