Reclaiming mileage expenses from HMRC

in Cutting tax
I’ve just started a new job which only pays 12 per mile for travelling expenses instead of HMRC 45/25p per mile. How do I go about claiming the remainder back?
also, if I took the option of a fuel card, how much would I be taxed on it? Which option would be best?

You cannot claim the remainder back.
You can get tax relief on the difference but you may be disappointed with the outcome.
If you did say 5000 business miles you can claim expenses of £1,650 (5000 x 45p less £600 received from employer)).
That £1,650 will save you between £0 and, in extreme cases £1k in tax. For most it will save from £330 to £660.0 -
thanks for that. Do you know what tax is paid on the fuel card as a taxable benefit?0
