Remortgage jargon question.

Hi All
I am currently in the process of remortgaging my house and switching to another lender.
I am part way through the questionnaire sent by the conveyancing company. One of the questions reads,
"Do you have an existing mortgage or charge secured on your property?"
Is this literally asking if I already have a mortgage on my house? I'm only remortgaging the amount we need for the existing balance no more extra.
These questions never make any sense to me.
Tanks

Yes. Literally asking you about your current mortgage.
You can remortgage a mortgage free property to raise capital so that's why they ask.1 -
