Is there a minimum age for wearing contact lenses?

My dd is keen to get contact lenses instead of her glasses. She is a young teenager and I thought that her eyes might still be changing too much for it to be a viable option at the moment.
Does anyone have any ideas/ experience?
Many thanks.

There is no minimum age although the optometrist might have their own ideas.
Do you think that she will be able to cope with them and take proper care?0 -
My son had them at 11, his Consultant at the hospital prescribed them. There were younger children with them. My son really wanted them, I think he had them for about a year and then decided glasses were easier but he was glad he had the opportunity.0

Just be aware that contact lenses involve a lot of scrupulous cleaning, and the solutions don’t come cheap. Having said that, I’ve worn them for 40 years successfully, although I didn’t start until I was 28.0

There isn't a minimum age and a changing prescription isn't a barrier to contact lenses.
As long as the optician and parent are comfortable as is the child there shouldn't be an issue. Daily disposable though more costly are often the safest with no need of daily cleaning and storage0 -
Specsavers were happy to prescribe for my 10 year old, he was keen until they showed him that he had to touch his eye with the lens. He could not do it. His eye closed before he got close. Would of got him daily disposables, wanted to have them for sport worry about the glasses breaking and injuring his eyes.0

My 9 year old has corrective vision contacts that he wears at night only and does not need to wear glasses at all. The idea is that when he is fully grown will not need a prescription or at least a very small prescription. It costs 50 pounds a month all in and he is coping very well.I don’t think all opticians offer this service ask this quite new technology so you may need to do some research. His eye sight is now better than 20 20 vision so so far so good.0
