Do I have to go to work on my day off for covid testing
[Deleted User]
Every week I have to go into work and get a covid test done, as well as do LFT twice a week as I work in healthcare. I have moved now and it is very much out of my way just to go in and get tested, at least a 35 to 40 minute journey, I already work 5 days a week. I don't get paid for doing it either. It's out of my way now since moving so I am just wondering before I approach my manager, am I in the wrong for not wanting to go in on my day off just for a 5 minute swab when I can just do it at home and send it off in the post that way?

You cant be in the 'wrong' for not wanting to do something.Deleted User said:Every week I have to go into work and get a covid test done, as well as do LFT twice a week as I work in healthcare. If you don't want to do something then it's not really a right or wrong situation. It's how you feel.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
You can only ask, however, I maybe wouldn't go in all guns blazing and saying how much of an inconvenience it is - you catch more flies with honey rather than vinegar after allDeleted User said:Every week I have to go into work and get a covid test done, as well as do LFT twice a week as I work in healthcare. There may be a reason why you have to go in, for example, in my grandmother's care home, they complete the home testing but staff have to have a test every week which has been witnessed by managers to ensure it is done correctly. There could be something like this?0 -
Oh absolutely not lol thankfully I work with an amazing company and they're supportive. We don't need the managers to watch we just go in a room and get it done and have to put the registration sticker on the board with our names, but I can just give them the registration no when I do the test at home. I will speak to them but just wanted to know what was our rights, really.kayleighali said:

To a large extent your 'rights' are determined by the rules of the company. If they believe it is necessary for staff to do tests at work they can insist on that being done. The have the right to ensure all staff are complying as well as a duty of care to staff.

Then the employer should arrange for this to be conducted during normal working hours.TELLIT01 said:To a large extent your 'rights' are determined by the rules of the company. If they believe it is necessary for staff to do tests at work they can insist on that being done.

You will probably find that for PCR tests they are only done one one particular day as they have to pre-arrange a courier to collect them.0

I mean, let's be honest, all of what you've posted is complete nonsense.TELLIT01 said:To a large extent your 'rights' are determined by the rules of the company. If you are required to attend for test or indeed anything work related on a day off you are entitled to be either paid for your time or given time off in lieu.Teamwork means.......never having to take all the blame yourself

some pragmatism may be expected though as it was the OP that moved and made it more inconvenient0
