National Insurance Credits

Hello, Please can anyone advise me on the following? I read that if child benefit was paid in your name and you weren't working you would have been credited with NI for up to 12 years. The person I read about then had her pension updated and also backdated. Then today I have read that this was only if you did not claim the benefit. So which is correct.
I have received my NI record and there are no credits for the 12 years I didn't work and was in receipt of child benefit payments that were in my name. Also I started work in 1963 until 1967 and there are no credits for this period. They start from 1975. I also worked until May 2009 but my NI record ends in 2006 -2007 why would my credits start in 1975 and finish in 2007?
I am very confused!

You have posted on the child support section of the forum. You'll be better off posting in the welfare benefits section.

The on line record usually starts from 1975 but has a statement of "Our records show you have X full years up to 5 April 1975".Child benefit tax credits - or Home Responsibilities Protection as it was called then - only started in April 1978.If you were in receipt of child benefit post April 1978 you should have automatically received credits whilst you had a child under 16 up to a maximum of 22 years credits IIRC - the age 12 limit only started post 2010 - but there were some hiccups and a claim may be needed.More details needed about your age and work history to answer some of the other points.Agree this should be posted elsewhere but as I suspect this query may be to do with state pension maybe the Pension, Annuities an Retirement Planning would be the best board.1

Hi Molerat,
Many thanks for your answer. There is nothing about pre 1975 credits. Also my child benefits started in 1967. So I guess that's why no credits.
