Council Tax for weekday Lodger

Options
Hi, I currently live with my 3 children so being the only adult in my home, I qualify for single persons discount. I am planning to take in a weekday lodger. This person is an adult who owns her own property with her partner and will be staying with my family for work on week nights only. My question is: Will I lose my single persons discount? If so, will her partner then qualify for a single persons discount on their property?
Thanks,
M

It is best to check with your local council regarding your position. Your lodger would still have their main residence at their own home so their partner would not be entitled to the 25% SPD.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

Providing the property is not their 'sole or main residence' then they do not affect your council tax charge, and you will remain entitled to any discount as though they were not living there. They are regarded, for council tax purposes, as remaining resident at their home property.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.
