National Living Wage 2021

Hello, I work for a company that pays every 4/5 weeks rather than monthly, my last payslip was for the period 15th March to 18th April. I am paid the minimum wage and am over 23 years old. I was expecting to receive £8.72 per hour up to the 30th March and then £8.91 from the 1st April. However I have been informed by my employer that the new higher rate starts to apply from the next pay period (19th April) and it is not back dated to the 1st of April. Can anyone confirm if this is correct. Thank you.

Yes, according to this:

What your employer is saying is correct.2 -
Yes your employer is correct.
The higher rate starts to apply from your next pay period after the increase.
So some may get the increase straight away, others not - depending when their pay period is.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
