It’s hard to know without the specific role but that reads to me as people coming to the UK from abroad to do work, not for those returning from a work trip abroad, as in your case.duk3nuk3m said:
I thought this too, but the gov.uk website states (underneath my job):elsien said:Surely you’re either isolating or you’re not?
I’ve not seen any guidance that says “you can still go to work but you have to isolate when you’re at home.”
Perhaps your employer can point you at the specific guidance that’s telling them that’s what you need to do?
You must self-isolate. You can leave your accommodation when conducting the specific exempt work activity or travelling directly to and from your accommodation and a location for the purposes of this work. You must self-isolate at all other times during your stay. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.1 -

If you read through them its a bit of a mix bag of wordings where some certainly anticipate it being UK residents returning and others where it reads much more like overseas persons coming temporarily here. You also need to read all the detail as some of the headlines are very broad (eg IT Engineer) but in the subtext it narrows it down a lot (eg IT is only in relation to emergency threats or incidents that threaten security not the help desk agent of a regular company)0 -
I agree, it does read that way in some cases. But my employer's argument is that my work in the UK also falls into this category, so that when I return the exemptions still apply.elsien said:

So can you or can't you work from home as you suggested last year - it seems not since you have happily just gone abroad for work
No answer is going to be the right one i feel - I'm out0 -
My current role within the company has changed from last year and become more hands-on to meet the needs of a small business. Last year I was able to carry out the vast majority of my work from home.JamoLew said:https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6213402/boss-not-letting-me-work-from-home/p1
