Married Couple Tax

My wife and I have been married 9 years , just wonder should we have told the tax man or our employees?. My wife kept getting letters from work addressed to Miss and her new surname, she told her wage department but they said it didn't need to be change. Do we owe the tax man since we still could be paying single person tax?

There is no such thing as single person tax. Married men and women are taxed equally since 1990. Your wife’s employer is talking rubbish - of course her tax records should be altered! Her employer is required to submit a file detailing wages and tax deductions to HMRC every pay day.

For what? Her tax would have been the same whether married or single.
