Solicitor not on lenders panel - any way around this?

My MA contacted me to say my solicitor (used him several times in the past) is not part of Coventrys panel of solicitors. Is there a way around this or does it mean ditching him (hoping not)

As he’s the one to have put the offer in and have it accepted for the property we hope to buy... what does that mean going forward?

Our Solicitors wasn't on our lenders panel. They said it wasn't an issue and could be added by completing some paperwork.

    There will be 3 options:
    1) Get them added - not always possible.
    2) Switch to a new firm - the current firm may have some suggestions.
    3) Use 2 firms, one for your side and the other for Coventry' side - this will be more expensive and involves more people so more room for error.

  • Not much to add from ACG's summary but depending on how far through you are there may not be much cost difference with options 2 and 3.  I've just done it with Bank of Ireland and the extra cost was £350 so you could use that as a reference point

See if your solicitor has agency terms with another firm nearby which is on the Coventry panel.

Or looking at it another way, less room for error as you'll have two solicitors checking everything...

This was the solution. My solicitors is being added to the panel but they aren’t accepting applications until august.

    Sorted. And no extra cost.
