Summer toy for 18 month boy (For Xmas)

My friend's little boy was one last month and was given loads of clothes and toys for his birthday. She really doesn't know what he needs for Christmas. So I thought about getting him a summer toy which could be put away for next year when he will be 1.5 years. Or even just a normal toy? Obviously there isn't much around for summer at the moment.

Any ideas?

    Hi

What about push along or pull along toy (once he's ready for it it could be used indoors or out) Pull along dogs or trains are nice for little boys

  • depending how much you want to spend what about a trike? the ones where the parents handle comes out the back? argos sell quite a few. Also you can look at a push along carrier with wooden blocks inside, this can then get him outdoors but also have something to play with.

I got a similar aged child a push along toy that also is a ride-on toy and has buttons you can press that make sounds and a merry go round type-mechanism you can watch.Admittedly it was pink but i am sure toys r us have them for boys.At the time i think i payed about £20 for it.It also had a little seat compartment the child could lift and put things into-a favourite with this age i think.
Edit-see tons of fun pirate treasure ride on £19.99 toys r us uk-dont know if you want to spend this much though

ours is in green though - ideal for outside and can also be used inside as well

Or buy some argos vouchers and ask them to buy him something for the outside when the Argos Spring Summer catalogue comes out mid - end of January

A sit n ride type car/trike would be great.

My boys had one when they were little. It was quite cheap, as it wasn't a character one - just green and yellow with big ladybirds on! My eldest called it "the beep beep" as it had a hooter on the steering wheel :D

It was played with so much, it eventually just fell apart because it was worn out. We certainly got our money's worth from it.
Here I go again on my own....

If you don't want to get a ride-on, then how about a nice big car to push around the garden?

My three (6.5,4 and 20 months) have all loved things like that - the chunky Little Tikes vehicles are good as they survive outside just as well as their play equipment does. Megabloks is also a good brand to look for things like this, as is JCB (especially if he has a sandpit).

  • A toy lawn mower to push around might be an idea if you can find one.
