hi,
im due to pay hmrc a £8000 balancing payment by this July for my 19-20 tax return.
im having problems scraping the cash together to pay it as its a large amount.
if I call hmrc will they arrange for some kind of payment reprieve?
will they let me pay it later or set up a direct debit monthly payment plan?
thanks.

They may do.
Making an arrangement beforehand will also mean you will probably avoid a late payment penalty, which could be £400.
Are there also payments due for 2020:21 to factor in or is the £8,000 the only thing you need to pay?
Having your own plan of what you can realistically afford before calling would be sensible. And for that to be a realistic suggestion.0 -

I'm a bit suspicious as OP had £180k to invest a couple of weeks ago.

And the balancing payment for the 2019-20 tax year was due by 31st January, so the first line of OP isn’t even factual...kuratowski said:I'm a bit suspicious as OP had £180k to invest a couple of weeks ago.0 -
