Access to the government gateway records for tax and national insurance

Hi , Until recently I used experian to gain access to the gateway, the gateway no longer accepts experian to prove identity and the alternatives given are the post office and digidentity. I cannot register an account with either as I have no relevant photo ID. I have a well out of date passport and that is all. I really do need to access the gateway for tax and state pension purposes (check NI contributions) . Any suggestions on how to take this further would be welcome.

I contacted hmrc via chat, and after some security questions they sent me the original gateway code and then did a password reset2

I also did the same thing as anmarj.
You may want to consider passport or driving licence as we are going for photo ID done via camera on laptop/phones in the future. Many companies prefer this to sending originals in the post with the delay and lost item issues that arise.

I am not having any joy trying to gain access through the government gateway or through gov.uk-verify. The stumbling block is
the lack of photo ID . I really think that it is wrong that I am being discriminated against for not having photo ID. Any suggestions on anything else to try or make an official complaint would be most welcome.0 -

I'd suggest contacting your local MP and complaining to them. I have a lot of sympathy for you - for a long time I was also in your position, I've now bitten the bullet and got myself a passport purely for ID purposes as it was getting very problematic. It's not a particularly cheap process though, and not everyone will know a 'professional' person who is willing to vouch for their identity.

I've got to try and set this up for the MiL soon and hadn't realised it had effectively got harder since I did it for myself and the wife. Having said that my business partner did it last month, and used NFC on his phone to get data from his passport, and it was all scarily linked up, proper big brother.
Should be ok with the MiL as she has a UK passport despite living in Spain.
I agree about the obligation to have photo ID being unfair though, only just caved in and got a photo driving licence last week (as Brexit now means I have to for EU driving). Cost £20 and runs out sooner than my old paper one did.
I think your best bet is call them, I would imagine they are obliged to have some system to give access to those who don't have photo ID, it just won't be on their front page.1 -
So did you try the chat to get your original gateway code, which you don’t need id for?0

Sorry if I have confused issues but I never had an original gateway code, I just logged in to an Experian ID account and this directed me to the services I required, which still are NI contribution records and my personal tax account. Thanks0 -
Use the chat function to see what they can advise, i know i got a number, and then used the identity sites to log in, but then i needed the number but had to get it from them before i could the service that i needed. You could only use id to log on after you had set up the account, and that needed them to send you the number in the post.1
