Is it worth re-doing root canal treatment 5 years on?

Hi All,
I had root canal treatment roughly 5 years ago on one of my molars. I have started to get pain again and my dentist thinks it might need attempting again. He has looked at the x-ray and said it has been done well originally and was going to speak to a more senior dentist with the x-ray and get back to me.
Is it worth going through all the pain, expense and time in appointments again? Is it time to just pull it out
The original root canal was done at a dental hospital as my local NHS dentist could not find all my roots so I got referred.
Thanks

Without seeing the tooth and x-rays, it's really impossible to say - so be guided by the dentists that can.If it was an endodontists specialist at the dental hospital who did it, then I would have thought it unlikely that it could be done any better, and it's a general truism that the second go at a root filling is less likely to be successful than the first. How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0
