Hello

It's been a while since I've posted here. I am returning to the UK after a long stay abroad and will have a new place when I arrive. I will need to quarantine so I will be relying on online deliveries. I was wondering if anyone can tell me about Sainsburys deliveries: are they on the same day? Can I have them deliver on my new address even if I have not yet changed my address officially? What about delivery charges? Do they deliver fresh bread, not just the industrial loafs (I like baguettes). Is there anything they don't deliver?

I was a loyal Sainsbury's shopper for 25 years. Then lockdown came along in March last year and I couldn't book a delivery as I didn't have a shielding letter. I explained that my mother lives with me, cannot be left alone and I didn't want to bring her into a store but they still wouldn't let me order online

After 9 months they wrote to me to say they would be cancelling my Sainsbury's credit Card as it had not been used. To keep it open I needed to use it within three months.

So I now shop at Tesco online and they have been excellent. I book in advance so I can't answer your timing questions

I'm having a delivery on Saturday that I booked this afternoon. I don't use them regularly just when I need heavy stuff (in this case wine😉). They will deliver anything that's on the website if it's available. You have a choice whether to accept substitutions or not. I did notice an option to have the shop delivered to other than the credit card address. I know that's possible because people get deliveries to holiday cottages.

P.S. You could always order some part baked baguettes to be sure. 🤔

My daughter and I have been having Sainsbury deliveries since well before coronavirus struck. Then because I was over 70 (just!) I was allowed to continue ordering online with them. Of course they charge for delivery but we have a delivery pass which you pay in advance and it ends up being cheaper. For one-off delivery it's cheaper if you book a 'green' slot.

All supermarkets are willing to deliver because of course it's all profit for them. (Although I just read that Sainsbury has made a loss this year, oops).

We have our Sainos deliveries on the same day each week and we book from week to week. We have had a delivery today but yesterday we booked our next week's delivery date and time, a bit earlier next week, we were able to choose our own time.

We've never had any trouble. Years ago we used to have Tesco but their delivery drivers were so rude - it was almost as if they had been on a course of how to be the rudest you can to customers - we switched to Sainsbury's. The drivers are great. Although we hardly see them. They leave our shopping in the bags and baskets we put outside the door, they knock when they've finished and we wave to them as they leave and we bring our shopping inside.

I think that most of the hooha surrounding coronavirus has died down now and I don't think you will have much trouble getting online deliveries from somewhere.

As to fresh bread we don't order loaves because they'll probably get squashed. That's a great idea of maman's, though, to order part-baked baguettes.

If all else fails, you could try amazon. They do grocery deliveries but you have to spend over £40. A lot of the stuff is Morrisons. We did it one day just to see what it was like and everything was fine. It's great if you are desperate and there's nowhere else to turn. Our shopping was actually delivered by a family of three who they came in their own (quite large) car one Saturday morning. So that's something to consider if you're really stuck.

I've not used Sainabury's delivery service very often but used to shop there personally till a few years ago.

Here are my pros and cons.

     Pros:

The delivery people are friendly, bring my shopping into the kitchen and unload it for me as I can't get around very well.

You can book a delivery for £1 provided you are able to book for a morningl, afternoon or evening slot.  They will send you a message saying what time you can expect your goods.

    Cons:

If you are not happy with an item you have to hand it back to the delivery person otherwise you have to take it to a store yourself.  Not easy to check through everything if the driver is waiting.

I've noticed that "use by" dates are often shorter than at other stores.  This relates both to deliveries and "in store" shopping.  Two items I had delivered last time had next day dates.  Wish I'd spotted them before the driver left.

With Asda deliveries if there is any problem with anything such as short dates, squashed bread or bruised damaged fruit you can just request a refund online within 3 days of receiving the order. I have never had any problem doing that and has always been refunded without question.

And that is why the majority of my online grocery shopping is done at Asda.

Occasionally, however, I need something that Asda does not stock so I have to go elsewhere.

All online supermarks have their pros and cons - none are perfect, but then neither am I.  :'(

Just checked now and my Sainsbury is offering delivery for tomorrow really opened up recently with availability.

I think dependant on the area you live you may find delivery slots are more plentiful.

On Wednesday our Sainsbury was showing slots on Friday and Saturday.  Normally £4 but if you click the saver it gives option of say 8am till 12 at £1.  For fresh bread I would pick after lunch delivery.  Again it is down to area I suspect.  The Tesco had no slots.

Sainsbury does have lovely bread from there bakery, to me it is one of the better supermarket bakery.

Just to mention if you are expecting a delivery you need to place bags or boxes for items to be placed in outside prior to delivery - both Sainsbury and Tesco have stopped using bags (but they place fresh bread in thin carrier bag - same with meat.

The address query - I can't see it as a problem.  I have used both supermarkets for out of area deliveries when I am self catering.  Plus there is a place where you can explain regarding delivery instructions that you are isolating etc.

I have never had any problem with Sainsbury at refunds etc there online phone backup is good.
