Text shortcodes advice

I would like to enter a couple of text entry competitions but a bit confused about the rates. They usually say "Texts cost £X plus your standard network rate". Do we find out SNR through our phone providers?
I'm with Vodafone and have a feeling that would be really expensive. Does anyone know network providers or SIM only deals that offer good rates with shortcodes?

Yes your provider will tell you how much a standard text costs (I had a quick google and Voda seems to be 35p - no competition texts come out of any free texts you get, they are all chargable)
I don't enter many text ones (just the ones that only cost the standard network rate) - I'm with O2 and it's about 8p/ 9p a text for any I have entered (might have gone up slightly since start of april, I haven't tried)£2 Savers Club for 2022 #120
