Paying off mortgage / Deed of trust advice?

Hi all,
I'm new here so excuse any mistakes!
Myself and my partner bought our home last March, however I have a considerably higher % deposit invested than he does. Before we exchanged and completed we have a Deed of Trust drawn up with the percentages owned etc.
I've managed to save a nice chunk over the last year and would like to pay off a chunk of our mortgage since ISAs are paying a dismal interest rate atm. He's unfortunately not in a position to put the same amount in as me so:
Would you advice contacting a solicitor to arrange a new deed of trust to reflect the new change in percentages, or can I simply amend the Deed of Trust we currently have and alter the %s accordingly? The reason I haven't gone ahead and done this is because our solicitor took a copy of the Deed when we exchanged, so I wondered if this new version wouldn't be worth anything and they would revert to the original if (god forbid) the worst happens? Is there anything tied up with the deeds of the house?
Thanks in advance,

Oh, I forgot to say, we've both been paying the mortgage since at a 50/50 split so I assume that would also affect the total % amount owned and his would have slightly increased?0
