You wouldn't get redundancy as the job is still there when you come to end of the fixed term contract.

You have to think is it worth leaving a permanent Jon for something that's short term. You would have to look for work again when that job is finished. Your employer probably doesn't want to second you as they would need to find somone to cover your job and also thag you may be a valuable worker.
