in Cutting tax
Hi folks,
I have had a look at my HMRC personal tax account and as regards state pension, which I'm due near end of 2023, it states that I still need to contribute up to April 5 2023 to be eligible for £179.47.
My question is do I just need to contribute up to April 5 of the year 20023 (as it seems to state in HMRC tax account) rather than having to contribute to my actual birthday later in 2023 when pension is due?
Many thanks for any clarification.

If earning enough you pay NI until your State Pension age.
Slightly different if self employed.

You need to contribute up until your birthday if you have relevant earnings.Anything paid beyond 5th April 2023 will not count towards the state pension.1

And, when you do reach that date and continue to work, ensure that you hand your employer the certificate of age exception. Otherwise, your employer will continue to deduct NI.1
