O/S Daily Wednesday 21 April 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now light, dry but cloudy - hopefully sun will make an appearance again today.
DH and myself enjoying first cuppas - DS1 getting ready for work, DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was a light meal as I'd got a couple of fresh burgers in the fridge, DH ate those at lunchtime then wasn't hungry at dinner so just had a ham and salad sandwich. I had a salad wrap at lunch then a bowl of tuna salad for dinner. Not sure what we're having tonight.
We both have haircuts today and we can't wait! We're then going to have a ride out to a local shopping centre as we both need a few bits.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC, Hope you enjoy your day. It's a grey start here, it may brighten up.Ok day yesterday, I did everything I'd planned to do for once, even the ironing!I spoke to one of my nephews last night, we are planning a week or few days in Northumberland with him at the end of the summer, we are going to hire a holiday cottage if possible. He's lived in the Midlands for most of his life, and has never seen much of \Northumberland, so that's to be thought about. We are going to start looking for somewhere now, hope it's not too late. I know more people are holidaying at home this year because of the CV.I would like to hose the backyard down today, nothing else going on I don't think..Your new car sounds nice Csarina.DP1 glad your DD seems to be getting settled, and thinking of our poorly people today..Take care folks12

Morning All
Thanks for the start nmlc, enjoy your shopping.
Hope your legs are improving dumpling.
I love Northumberland Scarlet, hope you get something booked.
Well, I've had a haircut and feel quite light headed! Such a lovely feeling after all this time and good to catch up with the hairdresser, she's a great laugh.
I have the chimney sweep coming later this afternoon, hoping he can also fix the air vent that seems to be stuck. I'll cover up the sofas when I get home but leave the dusting until tomorrow once everything settles although he never leaves any mess but the dust is in the air.
There's a towel wash on the line, it should be sunny today.
Hope your DM has had a good night Gers, I think our default mode is for people to eat.
Enjoy Wednesday, take care. XX11 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. No sun this morning, just cloud cover. A disappointment after all the lovely starts we have had. Never mind, it's due back tomorrow according to forecast.
I had a fruitful trip into town yesterday and got a few solar lights to replace the dead ones. They were swapped over when I got back. I also set up the 4ft solar blossom tree that DD had bought me. I put that in front of the fence (that's trying in vain to conceal the ugly conifers) at the top of the garden. It looked really pretty with all the "flowers" lit up at dusk.
DD is coming later this morning to help me with the "easy to assemble" garden seat I ordered. The instructions start off with the words "needs 2 people". As she is as bad as me when it comes to reading instructions I can foresee fun and games ahead!
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Thinking of MARIE and our other poorlies and poorly loved ones. GERS I hope your DM has one of her better days. Take care one and all and stay safe x

Morning folks.Happy haircut day nmlc. It's so lovely to read such good news about outings, holidays and general normality. The heart is cheered.Yesterday I finished off transferring the tins and some jars into the pantry and feel very satisfied with myself, it's been a marathon task. There's still four jars to empty but I can't open them, even with the lid punctured and using the gadget.I only went out yesterday to drop off the food waste bags and collect the computer thing. My new laptop came with an incredibly small SSD (new type of storage to replace hard drives) so I had that replaced very early on. Now the unwanted SSD is in a caddy so it can be used as extra external storage. I've loaded it with all the photos of my beloved brother as a baby for nephew #1.Last week had I found three unwanted / unused cameras, two compact point-and-shoot ones and a 35mm one but had no idea what to do with them. Putting them in the tip would have been a sin so they just lay around as I dithered. Yesterday I did an internet search which came up trumps, there's an organisation which takes donated cameras of all types and uses them for projects, exhibitions and workshops with the homeless in London. 🎉 I couldn't find anything like it nearer here, just really happy that they can be used.An optical technician delivered DM's new reading glasses and spent a long time chatting and making sure they were comfortable. This morning I'm meeting my friend Alan for our final al fresco breakfast, next week we can eat indoors. How good will that be? For now we shall scatter more crumbs and splash more coffee on my car whilst really enjoying it.Happy Wednesday to all.13

Morning! Sunny again so more pottering in garden today. I'm going to sow some flowers today and see if they come up. If they do they'll go in the front garden where they can self seed to their hearts content and I can do nothing next year. I'm a very lazy gardener. Ohs starts are getting later and later this week. First it was quarter past eight, then half past eight, now half past nine today. Much more civilised than getting up at six. I'll be encouraging him to electrify his bike as soon as. there's a shop not far from us who sells all sorts of bicycles, he went in there a couple of years ago to talk about it with the owner but never got round to it. My bicycle needs a service, it's been in the garage for nearly three years doing nothing. I used to enjoy riding it around in the evenings in my abortive attemps to get fit.So we did have mushroom and bacon risotto last night, really nice, and for tonights delights and my lunch, I'm making bacon pasties after a chat with the lovely Nelski who put the idea in my head. I made the pastry last night and it's sitting in the fridge. Found it on the cornwall pasty association website with lard and everything. I would have made them last night but it needed to be in the fridge for three hours so it was too late by that time.Hope your shoulder is better nanny, it might be just telling you your garden needs a gardener
Goodluck with the new car csarina. After my van everything looks to me like the cockpit of an aeroplane with buttons and lights everywhere. Happy holidays maddie in welsh wales..snoozer, that's typical of everyone I think at a cetain age or point in their lives...hope he slows down. Have a good day if you can everyone, its beautiful out there, soak in the sun and cheer...

Morning all Well the deed is done I accepted an offer yesterday so now we await the survey its a first time buyer so things should move quickly if all goes according to plan I had the choice of 4 people one who offered well over the asking price was in a chain so it was a no and the other one had upset my neighbours already by parking over there drives multiple times so a no there and the last one was asking price only so not much choice I have lived here 30 years so i just felt i had a bit of a responsibility to my lovely neighbours as well as getting the best price .
Dog has been walked and i will carry on with the daily cleaning routine we are staying home this weekend and trying to sort the garage out so tip runs and runs to the other house then we will move on to the shed I can't say its a task i am looking forward too.
I popped to lakeside with DD1 and it wasn't too bad but there doesn't seem to be a lot of stock in the stores she got some nice work clothes in Ted Baker from the sale rail so she was happy.
Today is the last day i have my little car so i am off on a costco run with DS then taking him for his 2nd covid jab as she will be going to the scrap man tomorrow it was DD2s but she gave it to me when she moved to London but it is now becoming uneconomical to repair her boot doesn't stay open and she leaks in the rain its a convertable so her insurance runs out at midnight so much as i love her she needs to be replaced and the new house isn't a long walk to the major shops so i will see how i go without for a few months i am still insured on DH car so not giving up driving just yet.
OOh I have waffled today normal service will be resumed tomorrow back to the same old
TA good luck with the bench I tend to find anything marked easy assemble is far from it
Gers enjoy your al-fresco brekkie
Csarina hope the test drive went well
Its lovely to hear how we are slowly coming through this with haircuts and holidays being planned and taken long may it continue enjoy the sun everyone
Hugs to all those with worries ,poorlies and those who are just tired take care one and all and have a good day xSlava Ukraini13 -
Morning, hugs if you need one.
So today we have a coffee morning round at the little chapel, socially distanced of course, so as DB always eats more than his fair share of biscuits/cake it will be a yogurt and drink of milk lunch for him.
Yesterday I cleared the body of the car, just have the stuff to take from the boot on Monday. I had quite a chase yesterday, could not find my cover certificate to cancel the insurance on my little Skoda, eventually found it to discover that I had insured the new car with the same company after doing a search. so expecting the documents etc later this week.
Not such a nice morning no sun as yet, here's hoping, Its lovely to have a few nice days. I really need to sort out a proper gardener and move some plants before they get too big, DB dug out a rhubarb plant and it has given me a little more to add onto the herbaceous border. I just need to sort out plants to fill it.
I went to see my neighbour yesterday, she gave me a Garden Answers magazine, in it was an article about Strulch which I had spread over the big bed just before the winter. It has certainly helped and I will be doing the same in the autumn.
Beef casserole tonight, had a major accident on Monday night, the potato's boiled dry, was not popular, DB managed to clear most of it and using vinegar, water and bicarb I managed to finished it off. I am still getting used to the gas being instant rather than having to wait for it to heat up. I opened a tin of fruit cocktail yesterday, will finish it off with some ice cream for dessert.

Morning all
Bright and sunny here but I have done something to my back and am hobbling around like an aged trolldont know what I have done but cant move very fast at all so will have an easy day today and hope it gets better, I might have a long bath to see if that eases it.
DW needs empying and a quick tidy through should be enough for today, will take the dogs to the park for a quick walk round, I can park the car close to the park and just let them off so no pulling.
Bella Im so pleased for you, fingers crossed it all goes well xx
Gers some old cameras are worth a lot on money, its one of the things OH collects and has vast knowledge of, pm me what you have got (if you like) and I will get him to value them for you, some are worth hundreds !!

Morning all,I had a trip on the bus this morning, I needed a few bits from town.It was pretty quiet as I caught the 8.30. I never know if they'll be eating here so an easy tea of meat pie which I can freeze if it's not used.I need to have a bit of a tidy of my craft stuff and make a sandwich for my lunch.Hope you are all ok, hugs if you need one x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. The two small Olympus compact cameras are modern, saw some on ebay for £18.00 and the Pentax is is only worth about £30.00, again on ebay. For that small return I'd rather they got used by this charity. It's amazing what interests we all have!11
