Residential Mortgage and Ltd Company Registered Address

Hello,

Just looking for some advice / help,

I recently formed a limited company and have used my home address as the registered office address for the business.

It's an online ecommerce business so everything is done over the internet - we don't have any 'business' activity happening at home, it's purely for the convenience of receiving any correspondence from companies house & hmrc.

My partner is worried that we could be breaching the terms and conditions of our mortgage by using our address as the registered office, because it says you can't run a business from the property.

I assumed this was more applicable to someone trying to operate a shop or a business where customers visit, and that I would be fine using the address just for business correspondence, but I could be totally wrong.

My question is what do you think? Am I okay to use my home address as the companies registered address without causing an issue with our mortgage?

Any help or advice is appreciated!

It's perfectly commonplace and not a problem for lenders (or anybody else).

@johnmuzza You're on the money. I've never come across a lender having an issue with the setup as described in your post and it is indeed quite common.

  • @davidmcn , @K_S thank you both so much for your help.

We finally got a solid answer in writing today from the mortgage provider.

As you both said, there is no issue at all with me using our home address as the registered office address.

The reason they say you can't run a business from home is to prevent somebody buying a residential house and converting it into a commercial property like a shop or somewhere that customers visit.

The type of business I'm running (E-commerce, on my laptop) is well within their lending criteria. They said it would only be an issue if I did something to change the structure of the building itself to accommodate the business.

Hopefully this will help if anyone else comes on here with the same question!

    Thanks again!
