If Barclays carry out a valuation for a mortgage application, is this a positive sign that they’re happy with affordability and the financial side of things?

Barclays carry out their Hard and Soft searches right at the outset of your application, so that gives you a greater sense of confidence that at least from a credit perspective it is more likely to be accepted. You should be able to see these searches on Experian or Credit Karma etc.
