O/S Daily Monday 19 April 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now light and cloudy start to the day, but not frosty. DH did some planting into the garden of small seedlings that we'd got going in the greenhouse so hope there's no more frosts.
DH and I having an early cuppa, as we're both on hols from work. DS1 will be getting up for work shortly. DS2 settled and happy.
Lunch yesterday was roast chicken, some LO's for another meal.
Tonight we'll be having fish - menfolk scampi and chips I'll be having fishcakes and salad/veg.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning and thank you for starting the thread nmlc.
A lovely bright morning, still chilly but the weatherman sit will be warm later. I shall be outside for part of the day, there is a lot to do in the garden but I can't manage more than hour or so yet., some jobs are quite hard to do without full use of both arms though it is improving slowly. Also I need the vitamin D, I am about to start a course of that to boost it up. I have been upping my intake of dairy products, mostly yogurt and cheese. I have skimmed milk in tea but don't like drinking milk.
Hope everyone has a good day with thoughts to Gers and her mum and to all of us who may be struggling.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back12 -
Morning folks. Thanks for starting us off nmlc - I hope you can enjoy your time off now that your work situation is clear, a bit of relaxation is good for you.Yesterday I split my time between scanning photos and work in the kitchen. I decided to start transferring over the jars and tins from the standalone cupboard to the empty pantry. That wasn't my best idea of the year. Most of the jars of stuff were years and years past their BB dates and the contents looked really ropey. There's even a large Kilner jar of Victoria plums in brandy, given to DM as a Christmas present in 1999 - 21 years old. I just wish that she had enjoyed all this food and not squirrelled it away for a special occasion. The tins are OK, some are past their date but I know that the contents are safe for a few more years. The three Tupperware boxes full of little sachets of things like vanilla sugar and German pudding powders made me sad. Anyway, three more bags of food waste and a bag of washed glass jars to go out today.Scanning gave me more pleasure. Yesterday I did the album full of photos of my brother. He was a prem baby and spent his first three weeks in hospital, he looked a real wee scrap. I was a plump bundle in comparison. 🤣 There's lovely photos of our childhood time together with our two cousins and family in Germany. All that together with DM giving me excerpts from her letters made Sunday a day of real nostalgia.Today I have to out, mainly for a tip run. My car boot is full as I didn't go on Saturday as planned. My thoughts are with all the poorlies and those looking after them. Happy Monday to all.14

Morning All
Hope the poorlies are feeling better this morning and those looking after the poorlies find strength and a smile.
I had DS1 and the DGC here from Thursday until yesterday, it was lovely to have them and to be able to go out and about a bit more. I think we had broken them by yesterday as they just wanted to stay in and have a roast dinner!
Back to work for me today, quite looking forward to some structure but getting up and out has been a struggle this morning!
Have a happy Monday, take care. XX13 -

Good morning, another fine day here,Thanks for starting NMLC, enjoy your time off.AOD be careful in the garden, don't do too much. It's tempting to try, I know..i was reading old letters last night, that my dad had written to my sister, covering a spell of about 10 - 12 years from the early 80's to the mid 90's. My sister died 9 years ago, but her daughter discovered these letters among some other things recently and asked me if I wanted them.I sat down to read them last night. He wrote a good letter, warm and chatty, it gave me a bit of a pang though. I wish I'd seen more of that side of him. There was also a letter my mother had written from hospital a couple of months before she died in 1983, and it took me back to that time.We didn't go out yesterday, well DH went to the caravan - we'd taken the caravan towels, pillows, quilts and stuff out of the loft and he took them ovet to dump in the van, ready for (hopefully) going away. Everything is clean, It was all washed before being stored in those vacuum (I call them sucky) bagsPut some plants in the garden and watered a bit, and just did housework, that was our day.Today I must get a birthday card for one of my nephews and put it in the post - I know I make cards, but men's cards can be difficult. There's a bit of washing and ironing, as ever, just the day to day stuff.Hope everyone has a good Monday, thinking of the poorly people.Take care folks.12

Morning everyone
Just having breakfast then I need to clean the bathrooms so the towels can go in with the wash load I have ready. Then I want to walk along to Homebase to get some more plants. I put the grass seed down on the bare patch at the bottom of the garden yesterday and fixed up a barrier with net over it to keep cats and child off it - hopefully! The cats will probably just lie on top of it!
I don't start work till lunchtime but will go down a little earlier as an ex colleague is coming to sit in the garden and visit us. Little one will come up for her tea when I get home from work.
Eldest DD spent the weekend organising her new apartment and slept there for the first time last night. Just the kitchen to get fitted on Thursday and it will be finished.
Well I'd better move - hope everyone has a good day12 -
Morning, hugs if you need one.
We crackered ourselves yesterday cleaning out the car, it was a right mess, however its done now.
Test drive a 3 yr old Corsa this afternoon.........hence the car clean.
Its sunny, the sitting room is heating up quite nicely, have not been out so do not know how misleading the sun might be.
Cleaner here this morning, I usually manage to hoover up mid week, did not do it last week, so its a bit of a mess, however she will soon lick it into shape.
Lamb was nice yesterday, will cut the meat off the bone and we will have it for supper with mashed spuds and veg. Trife finished so need to sort out a dessert.

Hi everyone,
As I thought I got a call from Steve last night to say he was being discharged. I was at Laura's but it's just a case of driving straight up the M11 to the hospital so it wasn't a problem. Hopefully he will be ok now but they have told him to postpone his second vaccine, due on Thursday. That's not because of the infection but because his neutrophils are so low at the moment they don't think he would have a good immune response to the vaccine. They also told him to go straight back in if his temp goes back up. We've been trying to lose weight and with the fevers he's lost 13lb in the last two weeks in total.
I'm meeting a friend in her garden this morning for a cuppa, the first time I will have had a proper face to face chat with someone who isn't a relative in over a year. I don't count those times when you meet someone in the street and exchange health news about family and friends.
Have a good day.

Bright and sunny here but still a chill in the air I have a wash on the go of t-towels and cleaning cloths that can all go on the line.
DW needs emptying and refilling and the downstairs floors need a sweep.
I got my money back from the garden centre yesterday and spent the afternoon out there pressure washing the rest of the patio and garden table and chairs its all ready for bbq time nowweather permitting we will have one at the weekend.
Will get the dogs out for a good walk later and I am going to make a quiche for dinner I made one a few weeks ago with cheddar and mozerella and those tiny pepers it was very tasty. so will do that again.
Snoozer I am so glad Steve is home he will hopefully recover quicker there xxx
I love hearing all the war stories they fascinate me xx
Have good days all xx12 -
