This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning folks. After a bright sunny day yesterday we now have a dull morning. I hope it improves.Snoozer - yes, a day at Beamish Museum was a favourite outing of mine, along with Gibside. In Glasgow there's the People's Museum, not really similar as it doesn't have any old buildings, it's more a collection of items from Glasgow life. Nice idea, thanks. The mention of it brought back some lovely memories.
My shopping trip was very quickly done yesterday, the shops were very quiet. I think that people were taking advantage of the lovely weather and new freedoms to get out and about, away from shopping. I didn't need to get much as DM isn't eating a lot so a lot of food has been wasted. I'll shop more often I think.Whilst DM and her friend were busy with the Times cryptic crossword I watched the funeral and did more scanning. In the evening I decluttered some of a bottle of wine from DM's collection. 😀
Today may bring unknown delights, I live in anticipation. My thoughts are with everyone. Happy Sunday to all.10 -
Good morning, and thanks for starting us off Gers. It's grey here as well, still, we've had some lovely days recently.I'm glad your Mum felt well enough to do the crossword with her friend, her brain must still be sharp.I see you've visited Beamish, it's a great place isn't it - I think we'll visit again this year. It was a favourite day out with Ds2 and family when their son was younger, it's not far from us, just a short drive.Monna, the charity shop we left our stuff at is a local independent one which supports orphanages, schools and villages in Kenya, it's a great shop. I know that some of the big "chains" are limiting the amount of bags you can leave though. We went to Du*elm yesterday, and bought a pair of curtains - not the ones I'd seen on the internet, they were not as nice as I'd thought. DH picked a lovely set, he's picked nice curtains before, must be a talent of his! Also went to Ar*os and collected our order of toaster and kettle, then on to Li*l for a bit of shopping, so that was our day.We may go out for a walk today, and I must water the garden after I've put in a couple of new plants.Hope everyone has a good day, thinking of Snoozer's Steve and others who are not well.Take care folks.12

My DM recalled that all the letters between her and her mother during the war years had been destroyed at the insistence of the headmaster at her evacuation school just two days after Germany surrendered. The idea behind it was to prevent them falling into the hands of the Allies - no real thinking of that except some misplaced paranoia I suspect. So sad, but she still has her tiny home-made diaries from some of those years which she stitched together from scraps of paper. Such a life!9

Morning all
Thanks for the thread Gers and hugs to all those in need.
I took my kids to Beamish, brilliant place, but if a trek as we live in Berkshire but definitely worth it.
Sad sight this morning, a boat piled high with rubbish bags, it's being stripped out and sold, Tony the owner, first he had to have his dog Jessie PTS, then his arthritis got so bad he decided to give up the boat and move on to dry land, then he was diagnosed with stage three lung cancer, all in the space of three months.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Gers, no it wasn't me, I've only been to Beamish once although we keep saying we must go back to Northumberland, we have lovely memories of our holiday there.
Well, contrary to what he was told Steve has now been put on oral antibiotics. I hope they are as effective as the intravenous ones. I don't want a repeat of last time when he spent a month yo-yoing into hospital ending up in there for 12 days at the last because the oral antibiotics hadn't been able to control the infection.
I did a thorough spring clean of our bedroom yesterday and even cleared the pile of junk on Steve's bedside table. I usually leave it for him to deal with (once every blue moon). Today I am going down to Laura and Brian's and will have dinner there. I won't stay because I am meeting a friend in her garden tomorrow morning, the first time in over a year. I feel like a real gadabout.11 -
Morning everyone
I'm actually early this morning
Gers it was me who mentioned Beamish yesterday - I've always enjoyed visiting.
Its fascinating that your mum still has her diaries from the war years- how old was she then?
Well little one went home yesterday and I had a very lazy afternoon sitting in the sun reading. I may actually do some work in the garden this afternoon - but I have my Sunday Times , so maybe not!
Going down to mam and dad's for a roast beef lunch today so that will be nice. I have a pile of ironing to do first and will pop to M and S for some bread and other bits on my way.
Well, I'm going to check my bank and get on.
Hope everyone has a good day11 -
Morning all! Lovely and sunny today. I'm still on my mission of emptying the cupboards and freezer so today were having slow roast lamb with a tomato, pepper and wine sauce with baked polenta with a bit of cheese. That's some more jars of passata gone, some polenta used up and the lamb in the freezer. My goal is to completely empty the little chest freezer in the next couple of months. There'll be some interesting meals..I'm picking up some flowers from a garden this afternoon I think, she'll leave them by her gate, I'll drop off some tomatoes. I have also to fill the boot for a tip run tomorrow. The amount of stuff each time is going down and I've been ruthless this time. Any plate with a chip is going [ that's four] , a table which we hardly ever use, a plastic bin I took from a skip in wales to make a liquid feed bin has split in the frost, some other garden detritus and a rug from the lean to which was repuprosed from the kitchen , which, after thoroughly steaming on Saturday, I decided not to put one of the rugs back so that replaced the one in the lean to. A broken hand mixer. And our joy at the tree going was misplaced. It's still there. She must have changed her mind. I'm going to need some petrol then....Dumpling, hope your leg gets better soon. Snoozer, hope Steve is sorted quickly. Hester, hope your shopping trip was unfraught. Such a shame about your boat neighbour. Monna, I don't know what it is about our aged relatives chucking out photos and things. My gran did the same and my exes MIL. Hope your day is chock full of sun and shininess! Stay safe all.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi10

day
DM was born in 1928 and was sent away from Berlin in approx 1940. It was a bad time for everyone on both sides. And very complex, one of her uncles was an officer on the Bismarck (survived) and his brother died in a concentration camp for his anti-Nazi underground activities.Despite the difficulties of the past year it's been nothing in comparison to then.11 -
Morning, hugs if you need one.
Another sunny morning, heating is off and windows open. Yesterday I got so cold in the afternoon my fingers went blue!! Quick cup of tea and a fleece soon restored me.
I spiked the Lamb with garlic and it has been marinating in red wine ever since, turn it each time I go into the fridge.
DB requested I wash his gardening boiler suit, so its in the washer along with some other bits, they will go on the line.
We have had to make a decision about the car, its really showing its age, there are a couple of things that need looking at. I have found a Vauxhall Corsa 1.4 which is 3 years old and has done 11,000 miles. We are going to have a look at it tomorrow and take a test drive. It will wipe out my savings but they can be replaced. Hopefully I will have another 5 years driving left, it will be easier to sell a second hand car, if and when the time comes. We are just about to go and and give the car a wash and brush up, it needs it. Its a petrol car not diesel, and will cost more in road tax and possibly insurance.
Its proving to be an expensive time just now. I also need to replace some of our bed linen, over 30 years old, it too is showing its age. A visit to Dunelm will be needed at some point.
Supper tonight roast lamb with all the trimmings, the last of the trifle for dessert.

Morning all
Bright and sunny here but very cold again I have stripped the beds and got them in the wm they can go on the line for a while and should dry well.
I went to two local garden centers yesterday out door ones and bought some plants for the garden came home and spent a lovely couple of hours in the garden planting and tidying up its starting to look lovely out there now, later on while checking the bank I noticed one of them had charged me twice so I need to go back today for a refund its only up the road so no great bother.
OH is at his beloved boot sale, no great finds yesterday but maybe todaywe will get the dogs out for a good walk this morning and then maybe a bike ride later.
Dinner will be roast chicken with salad and mash so nice and easy will get four meals off of it and the dogs have all the scrappy bits so they will be pleased.
Have good days all xxx9
