Remortgage Questions...

Hi everyone,
Two questions I really would appreciate help on, I've spoken to independent advisors but they seem to have got me thinking more than helped me answer these questions.
1) I've never added my wife's name onto our mortgage for our house, mainly because she is a housewife so she didn't have earnings to support the application. Could this cause any problems later on? We are legally married, so the advice I received years ago is that it won't matter. (I'm thinking more about death and not divorce!) I probably should take out life insurance
2) Any advice on going for a 10 year fixed instead of a 5 year fixed. 10 Year fixed has a 1% higher interest rate (2.35%), are rates likely to go up in 5years... million dollar question I know.
Thanks in advanced!
John

What kind of "independent advisers" did you speak to? Mortgage Advisers wouldn't be able to answer either of your questions.0
