Halifax Valuation for Further Advance application

We've applied for some extra borrowing on our mortgage for home improvements. As the loan amount is taking us up to the max LTV of 85%, we need to get the house revalued. Halifax advised that the current valuation they hold for the property on their books is sufficient to meet the 85% but a formal valuation would take place on Monday. Haven't been advised of any surveyor coming out so i assume it'll be a 'desktop valuation'? Has anyone got any recent experience of this and whether the valuation came back different to what the lender had?
