O/S Daily Friday 16 April 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Frosty start to the day again this morning, looks cold..
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was ham, hot quiche, pork pie, scotch egg, jacket potato, cheese and beans - side salad for those that wanted it. Tonight fresh burgers, rolls, onion rings, chips etc has been requested for tonight. I'm not over keen on burgers so may find some chicken to go with some salad in a wrap.
Yesterday I got done what chores I wanted, so will do the food shopping first thing this morning, then have an easier day.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks. Thanks for starting us off nmlc. It's back to -1 this morning, my feet were sticking out of bed when I woke, they're very cold now so I'm staying put for a wee while. I'm doing a lying down dance to a tune on the radio. 🤣 Erasure's 'Sometimes' presses my 'dance on' button but I'm not getting out of bed for it.After sorting through a pantry, a large set of kitchen shelves and clearing a clothes cupboard I'm now deep into DM's old letters. She's kept all the letters from her mother during the war and beyond until 1967 when she died. There's also a letter from DM's grandparents to their daughter (my gran) in 1914. It's very fragile and beautiful, I think it needs to be professionally digitalised and preserved. This place is like a mini-museum.
DM has developed a very sore thing under one breast. I've been using an anti-fungal cream on it for a couple of weeks but it's not working. I spoke to the GP about it yesterday, she asked me to send a photo of it to the surgery by WhatsApp, that's just so fabulous, such a leap forward in practice. The photo is kept with the medical records which are all electronic. Anyway, I had a tube of cream in my hand 40 minutes later. Very impressive.I have yet to scan the photo album which is all of my brother. It's funny how the first child gets photographed every other day, second child less so. 😀 Mind you, there are loads of photos of me too, just now quite as many. I was shocked to see just how blond my hair was as a toddler, and then see it slowly change to auburn during secondary school days. Now it's decidedly grey!
Today I'll be dropping off shoes to the CS, picking up a gadget from the computer shop and returning an order to JL. DM isn't good so I won't be taking advantage of the latest loosening of lockdown though I bet many will. I'll be spending the extra £3.00 which came with my occupational pension today. 🤭
Hugs to the poorlies and those looking after them. And to those MIA too. Happy Friday to all.14 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Another glorious start of blue sky and sunshine. But still frost!
I have the excitement of a grocery delivery between 8 and 10. I hope its' nearer 8 and then I can crack on with the Friday Tidy without having to break off to put it all away. A text tells me I have one item missing - cauliflower florets. I can live without them!
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies and those with poorly loved ones. Take care one and all x

Good morning! Yes, it is a good morning for me, that's the last time I have to get up at six and sleep on the sofa [self imposed] for a week since OH is on lates next week. And another piece of good news..apparently the woman behind us with the tree that would rival the eiffel tower has decided to have it cut down. Joy. This means our garden will actually get some sun this summer. Looking forward to that. As will the plants.I have second jab today but not till after five so plenty of time to get myself sorted. When I took OH for his I was sitting in my car looking at all the people in the queue and it was only then I thought how apocalyptic the world is looking these days with the masks. I've also been looking round the house and realising just how much stuff needs to be living somewhere else while the work goes in later in the year. I will try to get it sorted before then.I did the washing yesterday [ Friday is the usual day] so today I'm going to empty the kitchen and lean to floors and steam mop. And have a look through my seeds to see what gets sown next. I made a curry last night with kale and okra and there's plenty left for tonight.Gers, your Dms flat is begining to sound a bit like the British Museum. Perhaps it should be saved in it's entirety
Hope you're all tolerable, have a goo day if you can!

Morning all, I too am waiting for a sm delivery between 8 and 10 with only one sub, dark chocolate digestives instead of milk. Don't think Dad will mind, but we'll eat them anyway if he doesn't want them.Other than sorting it and taking Dad's up to him not much else will get done today I don't think. I've been out to open the gates this morning and it's very nippy outside, hope it will turn out like yesterday and I can sit on the patio and read, although my book is so confusing. The woman in it is psychotic and schitzophrenic and I don't know if she's actually living her story or she's thinking it.taff enjoy your jab and the felling of the treeGers hope DM's sore bit gets better with the cream.Oh he's here with the shopping, better go and make a start.Take care all, stay safe and wellnan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently11

Hi everyone,
I'm back from Laura's after an eventful couple of days. Alone, because Steve is in hospital, he's developed an infection so he's on IV antibiotics, hopefully they will fight it off. We went straight there from Laura's and I came home after dropping him at the door to A&E, that seems so wrong. If he's not home today I'll have to find out their procedure for dropping off clean clothes and picking up washing.
Laura said she thinks she's passed her exam, mind you she always says that and comes out with around 80%. I ignore her pre-exam stressing now and just make soothing noises.
I hope you all have a good day, especially the poorly and carers. Oh, I just remembered, a belated happy birthday to dumpling.12 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need .
Frosty here again this morning, yesterday I met up with a friend for a dog walk, it was wonderful to talk to someone.
No plans today apart from dog walks and housework.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.13 -
Morning, hugs if you need one. Sorry to hear your mum is not so good this morning Gers.
So we are travelling into Leicester this morning to take Niblets quilt in to be quilted. I have an appointment to have my hair cut after lunch, it is almost down to my shoulders......look like a shaggy dog. It will be good to feel the air on my neck again!!!
Nothing else planned, we had a quick run into Lidl yesterday they had an offer on trailing geraniums, I also pick up the stuff I forgot to put on the Aldi order as well, saves time this morning.
Bright and sunny, bedroom rad off and window locked open, DB's tomato plants on the window cill are doin well.
Fish and chips tonight, strawberry trifle for dessert.9 -
Hi again. I'm back in less of a rush now. Shopping arrived at 8.15, delivered by a lovely cheery chappie I haven't seen before. All good apart from the missing cauli. Now all away and freezers once more stuffed to capacity. It's like an obsession, if there is an envelope width of space in them I go in a panic and it must be filled!
GERS I am intrigued by all your discoveries at your DM's. It must be so exciting wondering what you will find next. And I hope DM's sore bit responds to the treatment too.
SNOOZER I hope you soon have STEVE back with you, fit and well. When my DB needed IV antibiotics last year the hospital arranged for a DN to call twice a day so it could be done at home. Much better than being in hospital.
TAFF when the tree feller has chopped down the Eiffel Tower would you please send him up here. The next door but one neighbour round the corner has the tallest, ugliest, half dead conifers you can imagine facing my kitchen window. They need at least 6 foot off them and I would happily agree to paying for the job myself I am so sick of looking at them!!
Well I am now dawdling and time wasting and the Friday Tidy awaits so I will bid you another farewell! x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"13 -
Morning all, glorious sun today, still frosty but meant to rise later. I have the house to myself today so I'm having a day with only minimal housework & want to make a start on making some cards to replenish my stock.Last night I ordered the bits I couldn't get yesterday at the hobby shop, should be here later.DH got a few more flags done in the back garden, hopefully it'll get finished over the weekend,it seems to have dragged on - a builder's own home is always last in the queue
I'll be glad to move the bird table back to it's normal spot, it's been shoved onto the path at the end of the garden near the stone wall and a steep bank where cats prowl - I've just seen one stalking my friend Woody woodpigeon. It's only been coming the last couple of months & I don't know where it lives unless it's the newish people at the end. Ooh it's back again, hope the hound-dog is snoozing or she'll charge at the window.
Tea tonight will probably be pork loin steaks - I asked for 2 pork tenderloin but got 2 packs of 4 of these insteadnot the same at all and 1 pack has a short date on.
Right enough rabbiting, quick tidy then the rest of the day is mine. Hugs for anyone who needs one x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)10 -
