No, it will not remain on your credit report, soon as 6 years from the date of default passes it will drop off.

But if you let it be for 6 years (5 in Scotland) then it becomes stature barred and unenforceable which would have resulted in you not having to pay anything towards it.

By calling, you may have acknowledged this debt and thus reset the 6 year countdown. Depends if they recorded you or not!

Correct me as I may be wrong...I thought the acknowledgment has to be in writing and that a phone call (recorded or not) wasn’t enough for that!?
I stand corrected, you are correct!

"If the debtor acknowledges the debt in writing or makes a part payment within the original limitation period, then the time limits start to run again from the date of acknowledgement or the date of payment."
Sdavies read this I believe your call will not reset the clock it has to be a payment or a letter to reset the six year period if it was me id bury my head for a few more months

As other posters have quite rightly corrected me the phonecall does not reset the clock, the default will disappear when its time is up and it cannot be reregistered, this will happen automatically.  If your last payment was 2.5yrs ago then the phonecall hasn't done any real damage anyway.

The six years for disappearance of the default and the six years before it will be statute barred happen to be the same time but are totally separate issues.

Don't be too worried about things, if they contact you and you want/can pay them a sum per month then you can do so.  If you do not you have the risk that they still have 3.5yrs to choose to go for a CCJ.  Some companies are more likely to do so than others, how much do you owe? Sorry can't remember if you said in your original post (grr another bad thing the change in forum design resulted in!)
