Recommendation for tablet that's good for reading books and magazines

Afternoon all.  I spent ages yesterday researching e-readers so I could download books and mags from the library.  I eventually plumped for a Kobo.  However just as I was about to pay  it suddenly struck me that although the descriptions talked about books and magazines I hadn't seen a single magazine in the adverts or reviews and now realise I couldn't read them on an e-reader, or maybe they wouldn't be in colour.  It never occurred to me in a million years they wouldn't be downloadable in the usual format- I used to use my lovely Hudl for magazines but that has now died.


Soooooo - I suppose I'm now looking for a tablet with a decent screen for reading. Does anyone have any recommendations - there are so many? Or what sort of spec should I look for.  I'd want it to be as light as possible and it doesn't need bells and whistles, I have a laptop for that.  At least an advantage of a tablet over an e-reader would be that I can have Kindle and Libby/Overdrive books on one gadget without faffing about.

Pretty much any tablet will do what you want. Just get one with a suitable sized screen. For cost-effectiveness you'll probably avoid Apple and look at Android or Amazon Fire tablets.

Probably the best value is the Amazon Fire Tablet - my wife has had the HD 10 for the past five years, reads books, magazine, newspapers and surfs the internet etc. It does all that she wants. You can get a 7" version which is quite a bit cheaper. TBH any tablet will probably do the job but as Jenni_D says, it's probably best to avoid Apple as they tend to be quite expensive
