Claiming working from home expense twice

Hi everyone,

I claimed my £312 work from home expense via here last month for the year 2020/21 via the 'microservice':
https://www.gov.uk/tax-relief-for-employees/working-at-home

because I worked for an employer who paid my taxes for several months in the last tax year through a payroll.

I am also registered as self-employed. however, I did not earn anything at all from my self-employment last tax year (well, I probably should have stopped being self-employed but I didn't).

In my online self-assessment tax return form, I have also entered £312 in the other expenses in the Employment Income section.

Now I am not sure if I have done it correctly after reading Martin's article.
I have not submitted my tax return yet.

Can anybody advise me if I should revoke  my first claim? I got a reference number for it.

Your tax code is just a provisional attempt to collect the correct tax.

Assuming you needed to work from home due to Covid-19 them you are essentially confirming that the £312 claimed is correct for that year.

If you don't include it on your Self Assessment return then you will effectively need to repay the tax relief you received via your tax code.

hi, thanks for a replying. do you reckon I've done it correctly then?  I have also realised that I have earned less than 12'500, my personal allowance for the year. is it even worth it?

If your taxable income is less than your Personal Allowance then expenses cannot save you any tax.

If you are married they may make an application for Marriage Allowance more beneficial but that would be of benefit to your spouse not you.
