Mortgages for tenement flats above commercial premises in Scotland

Quick question for those who've bought tenement flats above shops (which obviously a lot are in Scottish cities). How did you find getting a mortgage? Was it any more challenging than usual/extra hoops to jump through? I know it's a problem in England, but there's so many flats above shops & pubs in Edinburgh/Glasgow, is it not so much of an issue up here?

Above (or very close to) a pub (or a take away / restaurant) is more problematic, but I don't think there are massive mortgageability problems with blocks which contain standard retail premises. Though sometimes there can be related problems e.g. shops sometimes aren't as interested in paying for roof repairs etc as the flats might be.
  • I was refused a mortgage because of this can't remember who by but got a mortgage with no issue from Halifax. Flats in my tenement sell regularly so presumably it's not a huge issue.
