Skipping

I just wanted to post about an exercise I've been doing through lockdown that's very underrated - skipping. I'm a 57 year old bloke, average height and weight, with visions of floating like a butterfly and stinging like a bee. Some hope! After a year of skipping, I'm much better at it and lighter on my feet (and faster) but seriously, two minutes non-stop is still a major effort and has me gasping for breath, my feet and calves complaining and, after about five intervals, has me sweating like Eamon Holmes eyeing a cream cake. I have a space in the garage where I have enough room to skip and have put some cushioned mats down, and my preferred rope cost all of £6 on Amazon. I've lost about a stone in weight, which I think skipping has helped maintain, but I'd attribute most of that to cutting down on beer, butter and (especially) biscuits. Anyway, I just wanted to wave a flag for an exercise that I think should be given more airplay than a lot of the faddish stuff you read about.

Thank you! That really cheered me up, you have a great way with words. Not only cheered me up (poor old Eamon!) but encouraged me to have a bash at skipping. I'm a 71 year old woman and think I could do about 20 seconds to start with but as you say you've been doing it a year, things can only get better. Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. Do you have any preferred skipping music? That sounds like it could be a fun way to exercise.0

I'd love to do skipping, but I've got trapped ulnar nerves. I trapped them just after I started skipping in 2019 (that's not how I injured them). If I could get a good quality skipping rope with a rope that turns really easily from the handles I might try it and see if it doesn't hurt.
Also, I would be skipping on my patio, so I couldn't use one of these plastic things as the rope would get destroyed.0 -
