O/S Daily Monday 12 April 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now light but cold and frosty start to the day.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS1 getting ready for work and DS2 settled and happy.
Lunch yesterday was roast pork, some LO's but not much so will use those bits as part of another meal. Tonight we'll have either chicken or gammon.
Back to work today - there should be some announcements this week, so hopefully will know more at some point.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. The announcement has been a long time coming, surely they can't keep you hanging on much longer. It's a beautiful start with blue sky and lots of frost around. But by heck it felt nippy until I put the heating on.. So much for another April heatwave!!
By yesterday I think we had all lost the will to live over at the site. Everything has been homed inside but, as the outside stores were all but past redemption, all the outdoor stuff is piled up outside awaiting a new store. DD's lovely chap's cousin is going to make us a posh new wooden shed, big enough for all the bikes, outdoor furniture etc.
So a day at home today and today is the day!!!! Hairdresser coming this afternoon to address my unruly mop! I sorted my roots out last night all ready for the new me. I just hope she isn't too scissor happy, as she sometimes can be, as I don't want scalping!
Plenty of jobs to keep me occupied whilst I am waiting. The washing has been piling up, the ironing basket needs looking at, lots of cat hairs around to vacuum up and could do with making a pan of soup to keep me going in lunches for a few days. No idea what's for my dinner tonight, I need to have a freezer rummage. I keep making out inventories and never keep them up to date so it will be a lucky dip and see what appeals.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. GERS I hope DM had one of her better days yesterday. Thinking of MARIE. Take care one and all x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"13 -
Good morning and thanks for starting NMLC. Hope your day goes well. There's a thin covering of snow, it seems that this winter just won't go away.Yesterday was an ok day, did quite a bit of washing and ironing. I didn't go to the shops. managed with what I had in, but i must go today, there are no potatoes left, and bread is very low.I've got a freezer full of food but don't fancy any of it, unfortunately, but it'll have to be eaten. I'm going off foods that I previously liked, but I don't know why, strange. Things like mince, which we ate in various ways, neither of us seem to want it.I cleaned the fridge out as well, it often seems to be a Sunday morning job.Today I'll venture out when i think the pavements are safe, the sun is out and I think by late morning it'll be better for walking. That's about it for today, hope everyone has a good day. Thinking of Gers and her Mum and others who are not well or struggling with life.Take care folks15

Morning folks. Thanks for starting us off nmlc. I'm sure there'll be news soon, surely the three month statutory consultation period will be over shortly. The polar bears at the safari park will be happy today, it's -4 outside just now. 🥶 Cars have a ice coating again. I don't have to go out today unless it all warms up considerably.Yesterday I caught up with the missed shopping and took more stuff to the tip which was surprisingly busy. I took the workers a box of biscuits as they are out checking everyones ID and being helpful. Later I thought 'how old lady is it to give biscuits'. 🤪Anyway, they deserve a wee bourbon to dunk.Whilst I was shopping a couple stopped me in the car park to ask about my car as they were thinking about getting the same one. We spent a really pleasant ten minutes or so, a conversation with random strangers was such a rare joy.The rest of the day was steadily occupied in various things like emptying the bottle of ancient sultanas I found hiding in a different cupboard and moving all the foodstuffs from the kitchen recess to the barren pantry. It'll be good to not have to squeeze behind the fridge to retrieve pasta. DM did a little bit of creative art in bed though was soon exhausted by it.Monna - what a lovely little snapshot of your DM. Some information never leaves even the most damaged of brains, with luck the intellect sits quietly until sparked by something. For now I'm staying under my duvet a little longer. There's one last chapter of a book to listen to, no doubt I'll drift off to sleep again and will have to replay it later.Happy back to work for those doing that. Happy hair cut day for those doing that. Happy going to the pub for those doing that. Happy Monday to everyone. 😀14

Morning! Well, that was a surprise taking OH to work this morning, snow on the car..In April! I think I may have to light the fire again after, the temperatures are going to go up but not by much.I'll do a fridge dive later on for tonights supper. Proable some kind of bubbly squeak with leftover cabbage and roasties and some herby sausages. Napping, italian and domestic stuff . Probably more hoovering...I've done that every day since I had the new hoover. Makes a difference because before it was a big performance to get the the other one out, haul it round, then change the wand thing to do all the edges and corner.Even the OH said it was lovely to walk on clean floors all the time so it must be good for him to have noticed.Right more tea and some toast and I'[ll be ready to face the day...Well done Gers on the declutterbug activities! Hope she perks a bit today. Happy haircut day TA! And well done for all the work on the static. Nanny, sorry you haven't been sleeping but treacle tart! nom. snoozer, phone the doc. AOD, hope the shoulder is improving. Take care of yourselves if you're not well, snuggle down into blankets and fire and toddies....Now that sounds good even if you aren't not well, so yes, that's my prescription for the day.

Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
Minus one here Steve won't get up for ages but Beano need a walk and the stove needs tending.
We left the marina yesterday and are now moored up with a view of fields instead of next doors boat.
Have a good day everyone
Hugs Hester

Morning all.
nmlc, please inform your superiors that there are a few people in cyberspace waiting anxiously for news and they are getting restless. We seem to have been on the edge of our seats for far too long and the edge of seats is not where nosy parkers like to be.
TA, like you I have to wait until this afternoon to get my flowing locks wispy bits cut, but I can start off late morning as it is a tortuous couple of bus rides away. I imagine that the collective sighs of relief will cause a hurricane, so had better get things fastened down.
ScarletRibbons if it would help, I have a book called something like '1001 ways with mince.' I may have to open it soon because, like you, I have half a freezer full of the stuff.
Gers, even down here on the Sunshine Isle the forecast today is 2° and snow showers. That would really be something, snow is almost unheard of here. I'm also still under the duvet and planning to stay here, warm and comfortable for as long as possible. I may even give the electric blanket another burst.
taff, I hate to break it to you, but there is something sad about someone waxing lyrical about a vacuum cleaner. Still, I suppose these days we must take our pleasures wherever we can find them.
Apart from the hair cutting expedition I have nothing planned. Eating is is going to be on an ad hoc basis as I will be travelling for the middle part of the day. I think a substantial breakfast is called for, possibly bacon and egg, and when I return all shorn and breathtakingly glamorous, (I can dream) it will be whatever I feel like.
Stay warm if you can everyone.I believe that friends are quiet angels
Who lift us to our feet when our wings
Have trouble remembering how to fly.15 -
Morning All
We had sunshine and snow showers yesterday (mostly at the same time) and I believe it was -5 overnight, everything is iced up but the sun is shining again so should be another nice day. I think I'll meet DD somewhere and we can take the little one for a walk.
I had to bite the bullet yesterday and buy a new vacuum cleaner, mine has been poorly for quite some time with the handle taped up and bits missing but it worked well. Sadly something terminal happened yesterday and it wouldn't stand up straight so I bought a new cordless one - what a revelation! Tried to take the old one to the tip but it was full so closed, seems to happen a lot at the weekends, I'll try again today.
Hope everyone's well and you enjoy your new freedom if you have any - nothing changes here for a week or so yet.
Take care. XX14 -

Morning, hugs if you need one.
Well yesterday turned out to be quite a day. Just after lunch DB announced he had central chest pain....hey ho, ambulance, hospital. He rang about 5pm to say he was waiting to see the Dr, then again after the Dr had been, they took another blood test and said if it was clear he could come home. Phoned to say the hospital had ordered a taxi for which they would pay........so I sat and waited. 9PM DB on the phone, the taxi driver had told him he needed to pay £40 up front or he was not taking him anywhere........taxi chap rang his office.... DB had to pay, so out he got out and walked back to the ward where he collapsed......BP through the roof, so they have kept him in. I am not expecting him to ring until later, once the ward round has been done.
So bed stripped and in the washer, I will put it out on the line, its a bright but cool morning, at least it will have a nice fresh smell.
Gardener due and also my cleaner......I think I am going to have to cancel tomorrows visit to take Niblets quilt. I may post it instead. I might also have to cancel my Aldi click and collect on Wednesday as well. will see how DB is once he gets home. I guess he will go straight to bed!!
No idea what to cook for supper, I am going to do a beef stew, DB can have some if he wants it.10
